The HUD projector comes around from time to time on the forum or ebay. Also, you may be able to get one from your local boneyard or the forum sponsor Corvette Recycling (it's named something like that anyway.) The rest of the parts are pretty easy to get. I'm sure someone on the forum could make a custom harness if you needed one. I'll be working on a Rev 3 of the HUD Install guide in the coming months as well.

Very well done. I'd like to ask your permission to put it up on the Tech Tips section of my website under the DIY's. If that would be all right either post back here or shoot me a PM.

Here is a link to the section of my website so that you can get a look at how I post these (all credit to the creator) and what type of information I have up there. Just let me know.

Wow that is one fantastic write up. I don't know if it encouraged me or scared me off. Have to think about it but sure do want a HUD.

Thanks for all the work.

Thanks! That's why I love this forum - a lot of great members sharing their experience with us all.

I've always wanted to do a HUD install and now I will.

Very nice. I could have used this for sure when I installed the HUD on my 08, but I muddled my way through it.

Has anyone done this by just removing all the dashboard fasteners in the vicinity of the guage cluster, the gauge cluster itself and other nearby pieces?

Default Nice write up

Very nice write up. I had a hard time finding a few fasteners underneath the passenger side dash when I did mine. Your photos would have helped a lot.

For those who want to do it even cheaper than 700, you can source some of the harness parts elsewhere, if you want to build your own harness. Search for my earlier posts with the parts sources. The tiny little connectors were the hardest thing to find.

Default Op Z, all dash fasteners have to be removed

Op Z,

You have to pull the entire dash up and forward to have enough room to get the hud in. I tried a couple of ways before I just disconnected the entire dash. The HUD unit is a two piece unit held together by screws and can be split in half. I thought this might allow me to get the unit in without disconnecting the dash, but it is still too tight. The lower mount on the hud unit really makes it a pain.

I've heard that one cannot order the projector from GM but that you CAN order it from their supplier (same one that makes the radio). Any truth to this? Does anyone know who their supplier is and how to order from them?

I helped three buddies add a HUD to their C5's and compared to the C6 the C5 was an easy DIY project and could be done for about $350 in about 4 hours.

The fact that we now have this tutorial will allow folks to buy a 1LT or 2LT (save thousands) yet add the HUD speaks volumes for the creativeness of our CF members. And contrary to many you don't need the "special" windshield to get the HUD to display a proper image.

KUDO's my friend.

Same here but I would definitely pay someone that knew what they were doing to do it for me. How much more could it be with labor?

Awesome post! And they said this couldn't be done. Ha!

I've heard the same thing but never personally checked into it. I would guess you could only order them on an exchange basis through the dealer.

Good luck to any wishing to do the install. If there are any questions or suggestions for the document you can always shoot me a message. Happy modding!

I actually found a source for the projector, brand new in the wrapper. PM me for info if you'd like.

I'm now working on gathering the parts for the harness. I'm really looking forward to this winter project...

Did mine with help by loosing up the dash a good bit and shimming it in. took about 8 hours. I've seen folks who have cut the duct and it took them around an hour to do. If you aren't concerned about the duct going to the drivers side vent then I'd say cut the duct. If you're more of a purist then you're in for the long hall.
