World Series MVP gets new Chevy sports car
Phillies win the Series and MVP Cole Hamels gets.....a Camaro. You would think they could have upgraded to a Corvette....I can understand no ZR1 w/ GM's money problems, but come on !

Its all about telling the Public that GM is about to start $hitting out the new Camaro. Has nothing to do at all with the cost of the car.

GM can give an engineering mule away to anybody as a body for a race car etc, but I don't think a person can register a preproduction car like that. I bet they give him one of the first models off the line next spring.

In recent years GM has actually given the World Series MVP a new Z06. Of course the giveaway is all about marketing and promotion for GM, therefore it makes more sense at this point to give away the new Camaro. Even if they had given away a ZR1, it wouldn't do much for GM from a marketing standpoint. Promoting the ZR1 in this way would not result in GM selling 50,000 cars the first year nor does GM want to sell 50,000 units of this low production vehicle. The ZR1 is better marketed specifically to car enthusiast who may actually purchase one, not to masses of people who will never buy one. The Camaro on the other hand is created for the masses and GM hopes to sell as many as people will buy, therefore it is a better car to market this way.

Poor guy.... Do you think he can afford a Corvette/ ZR-1...? Most pro athletes probably buy Corvettes as daily drivers to drive when they don't want to get there Ferarris/ Lambos dirty...

You guys are thinking with limp ones.
GM was giving away a 2010 Camaro. Not a 2009 Camaro. There are plenty of folks that have seen Vettes. There are tons of more, especially on worldwide tv, that have never seen the new Camaro.
BYW...Cole Hamels deserves a ZR1 but the Camaro is much better than a lame Hybrid Yukon.
Oh...by the way....Phils are World Champs!

Geez it's hard to be positive...
John Q. Public is bailing out GM and GM is handing out free cars to millionaire sports stars... Let him (or Leno, or anyone else) buy his own stuff.
He'll likely auction it off for charity when he gets tired of it anyway which would be good.
Way to go PHILS!

It's a way to get media exposure for the Camaro.[/QUOTE]

Very true. My brother-in-law plays golf on the PGA Tour. Every time he wins a car he gives it to a friend or relative. It's purely about advertising and letting the public get a glimpse of the new Camaro. Chevy plans on selling a ton of them!

no car at all
A TROPHY AND PLAQUE AND A RING ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH!
GM like Wheaties wants to be "associated"with winners.
GM going through a billion a month and they are giving millionaires
cars! And some folks think they didn't give an expensive enough one!

The cost of the camaro is a drop in the bucket, even if the exposure made NO ONE go put a deposit down for one. Sure they will lose money giving it away, but the money they will gain by getting the car more exposure will more than pay for the money lost. It's not like they are giving all their execs a Camaro, or flying them to vegas for the weekend. This will end up making them money through increased exposure to consumers.
