My previous vette was a C5 with hud. My 08 does not have and was wondering if anyone had it installed afterwards. If so, did it work well and approximately cost, and did GM do it? thanks.

The parts seem too reasonable in price.
How hard is the install? Such as:
-How do you fit it in, do you have to pull the windshield?
-I thought the heads-up required a special windshield?
-What about the control switches that go on the left side of the dash, how easy are they to install?
-Knowing the heads-up display can show "g's" is this a feature built into the heads-up display?
Did a GM/Chevy dealer install it?
Thanks in advance!

Just did it this past weekend in my '08 and it works great...even with my non-HUD windshield. Though I do see the advantage of the HUD windshield now. The slight imperfections in the crash film is noticeable as a slight waviness in the HUD display. It's visible, but definitely not "Oh my gosh, I have to get a HUD windshield now". Even with that, I still love it though.
Though I kinda got shafted on the price...I was impatient and didn't do my homework, so I got burned. My own fault, I should've known better. LOL!
You can source the parts from forum vendors for about $300-ish, and the harness will set you back about $75-ish. IF you buy it all as a kit from someone, don't pay more than $400, or you're getting hosed.
Took about 5 hours for me to finish and most of that is removing/replacing bolts and fasteners. I also did NOT remove my steering wheel, so fiddling the projector unit into place took a tad bit longer. But the extra few minutes guaranteed no damage to my wheel...and still took less time than messing around with the airbag assembly.
All in all, I'm totally happy with it and would do it again if I get another good deal on a non-HUD Vette in the future.
...and if you're near Nashville, I'll help ya do it.

I did it about a month ago on my 2LT 08. It works great. Instead of removing the dash, I did the "cut the ac duct" method. The PDF instruction manual was helpful. I just did:
Step 2: Instrument Panel Removal, but I did not remove the knee bolster bracket
Step 2a: Cut the ac duct - I used a solder iron to cut/melt the duct on the right side, then I just twisted down the duct on the left (breaking the bracket). You need the left side out to put the left nut on the HUD.
Step 6: Installing the HUD
Step 6a: Duct tape the ac duct - I put tape on both parts that would be put back together making sure that plastic would not rub and where the bracket broke, then taped the two piece back togther.
Step 7: Wiring the custom HUD harness
Final Steps - Installing the bezel and putting it all back together
I didn't need to do:
Step 1: Center Console/Radio Surround Removal
Step 3: Steering Wheel Removal
Step 4: Dash Assembly Removal
Step 5: Electrical Harness/Connector Notes
Funny thing is I had a squeek in the dash before I started. Now the squeek is gone and a HUD is in place.
Try to keep your eyes on the turn instead of the G-Force number.

I had it installed in my 10 GS. THe installer was a highly experienced stereo installer who took 8 hours total. It was a bit harder than expected to say the least.
I will say that I love it though.

If you study the instructions up front, it is very straight forward.
