Default How many folks use Sta-bil in their car?

I was recommended to use this in my cars especially since they are parked more than driven.
Was are some of your honest opinions about this product ?

cheers,
G

I use it because of the bad things I've read about what happens with the ethanol in gas.

I don't use it in my Vette which is stored for the winter for 3 to 3 1/2 months. I fill the tank before I put it away to avoid condensation. It's a sealed system unlike autos years ago. If it were in storage for a much longer period, I would probably use some stabilizing product, I believe that there are products designed specifically for gas and ethanol mixtures. You might want to check to see if Sta-Bil is one of them.

As a side note, I've never used it in my snow thrower and it goes unused for up to 8 -9 months. it's 31 years old and never had an issue, again, just filled the tank. I recommend you do what you feel comfortable with, it certainly can't do any harm.

Yes, it keeps the moisture (water) out.

I went on my second deployment to Iraq for 4 months in 05 and did not put stabil in my truck....It took me about 4 tanks of gas to cycle through all the bad gas before it started running right. I then put a bottle stabil in my Acura in 07 while it sat for 8 months and then another bottle for the next 7 months and I had NO issues with it. I recommend it due to the fact that gas is a perishable item and $10 is a small price to pay to have a little insurance to make sure your vette wont run like crap when you finally get to drive it.

I do it since it is realatively inexpensive and I only need it once a year. Snow blower, I can run the gas out of the fuel system (carb, etc) so I don't put any in the tank which is never full when put away.

Kinda like the battery tender just a bit of extra insurance for a successfull start each spring.

If I were to store the car for the entire winter I would(and have) but I get the car out a couple of times a month(weather permitting) and try to run alot of the stagnant fuel out and top off with fresh 93 till next time.

Good stuff, I have used it for years. Ethanol gas wil brake down and cause problems.

I've been storing cars over the Winter for 25 + years and never had any problems. I've never used any additives and just start them up in Spring and they run great. Generally, they all will have at least 3/4 full tank when parked.

Stabil makes a marine formula designed for ethanol. It's blue instead of red. I started using it this year for my mowers, weed-eaters, blowers, etc. I don't have to store my vette like you guys up north so I can't give you any feedback on using it on our cars.

I store my Vette for the Winter and have always had one vehicle or another stored during the Winter. I have never used the product or anything like it. I do not believe it is needed for a 3-4 month storage but have nothing negative to say about it either. It is cheap enough insurance as it will do no harm, so if it makes you feel better use it.

Thanks, that's the stuff I was referring to. One of our club members owns a boat sales/service operation and supplies this to any member that wants to use it. I didn't know it was a Sta-bil product and as you mentioned, it is blue and designed for ethanol.

use it in anything that sits very long, snowblower, lawnmowers, motorcycle and Vette... everything starts drastically better since I starting using it and it's not expensive.

Mine was stored for 13 months with stabil and it ran just fine on that gas when I got back.
