Default headlight scratches

Has anybody had any success with somehow polishing scratches out of a headlight lens cover on a C6 ?

This is my driver side headlight...

Those don't look like scratches, they look more like cracks.

Is the car still under warranty? If yes I'd take it to the dealer.

I would give Meguiar's Plastx a try. There are some other products that are plastic lense cleaners and polishers. It's worth a shot!

BTW - What is that small bulb toward the front of your headlight?

That's hairline cracking..........hope you have warranty remaining.......don't polish anything yet, cause it won't work anyways, and they'll have cause to immediately deny your warranty claim, citing heat stress and/or improper treatment of the surface.

Reason I say that is lot's of other auto manufacturers have been denying warranty claims on these expensive one piece units because of cracking, crazing, and condensation, by trying to pass it off as something that the owner did to cause it.........and even in a couple of cases I know were they said it was normal wear and tear.........just like rock chips in your paint.

I fully agree. Polishing will not take care of this problem. This is a warranty issue. I at least hope the car is still under warranty!!

i suspect that the headlight lens was at one time covered with an aftermarket film, and it was taken off and cracks appeared either from too much heat or glue reacting with the plastic. if this is the case, good luck with a warranty claim if you still have warranty

headlight was modified with the extra bulb in there as well, and the dealer will just use that to not honour any warranty if you have any.

good luck

Those look like stress cracks; definitely does not look like scratches.

It is called "Dim-Dip Lamps". Required by many countries, mostly in Europe.

What is your warranty in France? In US 3 year 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty with 5 year 100,000 mile power-train warranty.

I agree with the others - that is crazing. It won't polish out and will just get worse over time. Did you ever have headlight film on them? Because there are instances where that will retain heat and cause the crazing.

Just had mine lights replaced under warranty because of the same problem-glad I didn't have to pay for those bad boys! They can't be fixed or polished out-just replaced.

I've been there, do not try to polish out, it will not work and will only make it look worse. I did not ever have headlight film on mine and they crazed even worse than yours. Dealer denied me the repair under warranty, so I replaced the assembly myself. However, some have been successful having the lamp assembly replaced under warranty. Best of luck!

I would think that you can buy new EU GM headlights assemblies from www.gmpartshouse.com or www.partstaxi.com. Doubt you can order them online, but give them a call or send an email and I am sure they can help you.
