Dash crack covered under warranty??
#41
Funny how times change.
Back in 1985 I had a 82 Trans Am that the dash cracked on over the winter. It was just 1 month out of power train warranty, and the service manager turned down a warranty claim. He said I should have been using ArmourAll. If it was still under the B to B he would have taken care of it.
I went in to see the general manager and he had the zone rep. come in to look at. (At that time GM had zone offices in major cities to step in on these matters) The zone rep. authorized a good will replacement. By this time the owner got involved, and told me he would have covered it if the zone man didn't.
I wasn't a long time customer at this dealer. In fact this was my first purchase or service visit there. It was just a different attidude in business. They wanted to establish a faithful customer base not just a hit and run.

Speaks for itself. Nice response from someone, but the facts are you got turned away twice including having a phone put down on you. Then, just to verify you were not acting like a dork, not one but two other service depts. confirmed this was something to look at, and be taken care of.
Don't sweat it. You have already spread the word, and it is not good. What IS good is that A) you will get your dash taken care of professionally, and correctly and B) you can now toot the horn for two other dealerships.
If it were me, I'd send this thread with a thanks of some kind (I mean, how much is a pizza for the guys gonna cost you?) to both dealers. They will remember you, and so will you remember them.

When you replace a part (like this dash) you are required to keep it here and its subject to inspection by a GM rep. If the rep decides the part should not have been replaced then he will charge the dealer back for the part and labor they were already paid for. And, in today's world, GM is looking to make money anyway they can.
Kerbeck didn't even give GM a chance to weigh in on the decision.
We all know dealer attitude toward warranty repairs. Most of us have been down this road also. Do you really wonder why people don't trust what you say.
Never, ever stop with what a dealership employee tells you. Always go up the chain. Go outside the dealership if that's what it takes.

Having bought my last two Corvettes from Kerbeck, both times Dave wrote up my order. I knew he would get back to you. Dave is a true gentleman and a standup guy. He represents the Kerbeck that I have come to know over the last 6 years.
I'm no expert, but to the naked eye, it certainly doesn't look like a cut or slice to me. What did they think you did, try to slice a piece of pizza on your dash. I find it hard to believe that they would give you a hard time over this.
Thankfully you found someone who was willing to make the repair and or replacement for you.
I gotta say I'm very surprised at Kerbecks service department and how they handled this (or not) for you. I bought a five year extention on my warranty and hopefully I or anybody else won't be treated the way you were. They (Kerbeck) have a reputation in the business and it's things like this that can ruin it. Thanks for the posting and letting us know.
Please keep us informed of how the the repair went. Sounds like the people at Bennett know how to treat their customers. Good Luck

My dash got cracked when I had my steering wheel turned 90 deg and released the wheel to exit. The paddle shifters behind the steering wheel whacked the dash and caused a nasty crack. I insisted it was a design flaw and my dealer eventually agreed to replace the dash. Now ask me what it cost to have my non-oem HU reconnected

Someone made a suggestion early on about contacting Geoff Allen (Chevy Cust Svc) for assistance and that was a good suggestion.
Sorry you weren't able to work out the problem with Kerbeck, but glad you got the problem addressed.
Meanwhile, both sides have had a chance to post their comments so we'll close the thread, as per Forum rules:
