Came off on 8/08/11 and Cyber Gray should be about a month behind.

Sure would be nice if DuPont made the flakes in the USA.

Yes it is (at least color appearance). Can't talk to the formula. No one is going to give me that information...LOL. It should be however. The only hold up was the flake supply defecit due to the earthquake/tsunami and the plant has reopened.

Good point on the flakes. Made a difference between Magnetic Red Metallic I and II. The latter still looks fantastic on my 2005 Z51.

The problem is that DuPont doesn't make the flakes and a German company has the patent on the process to make them. Not 100% sure, but I seem to recall reading that the "flakes" were made from colored glass.

My understanding is the German plant that makes the "flakes" in Japan is up and running, and they are building a second plant in Germany. I'm guessing that the various auto mfg's got pissed when they couldn't get the paint(because of no "flakes") and they had no second tier supplier. Told Merck KGaA to get a second plant or lose the business.

Edit. My bad, they are made from a synthetic Aluminum oxide.

Do the flakes glow in the dark now?

In the GM Online Order guide 89U is listed as new color, Crystal Red Tintcoat. No metallic in the description. Does anyone know if this is now a non-metallic color?

hey, im currently pulling my hair out trying to figure out if this is the color I want. Its shipping here from another state. Hope I like it. At 8 it looks purplish, at to it looks burnt red, in the sun it looks cranbury, at dusk it looks dark. Changes as fast as my wife changes her mind.

My 2008's CRM paint code is 89U. I would think the metallic would have been in the color description.
