Default Alternative tire options

I am considering purchasing a used vette. I have looked at a 2009 and 2010 coupes (one is a 2010 GS). It appears that I may have to get new tires. I called the local Goodyear dealer to price the tires I saw on the GS and was told that the C6 was special and the GoodYear F1 run flat tires were my only option except I could get Y or Z rated tires.

I think GoodYear said this was due to the "offsets" on the wheels and that only GoodYear makes the tires. When I looked at dicounttiredirect.com for the Eagle F1 EMT Run Flat tires, they have a note: "Exclusive fitment specification for the C6 Corvette". Cheaper than the dealer mentioned but still pricey.

I see elsewhere on this forum a post about Kumho tires but not for 2009 or 2010.

Is it true that I have no other option for tires? A 2010 GS I am looking at at CarMax barely has 6000 miles and the tires are about 10 miles from the treadbar!

Also, I have no experience ordering discount tires on-line. If I do so, will I have any issues getting someone to install them?

Well I am waiting for a call to replace my 300 mile set of GY for the GS. Am replacing with Michelin PS2. I think the basic feeling is these are better than the GYs. You can also do Nitto Invo's but they are non run flat. I will be making a heck of deal on selling the GYs, if interested let me know.

A lot depends on where you live and how you will use the car. If you buy a non widebody you have good deal of options.

By way "offsets" probably mean camber, like in too much negative.

What they are telling you is pure garbage. You have to decide between EMT (extended mobility tires, aka runflats) or non-runflats. Then look at sizing. There are more non-runflat options but there are plenty of options for your C6 corvette.

Are you saying "plenty of options" for the GS??? I have been looking for a month and I wish it were true. I sure could use any help with EMT or non run flats that I missed for a GS.
No question on the non widebody for sure. Just thought he was discussing the GS.

Golly, somebody needs to tell the tire vendors about all those options for the GS.

325/30R19 is not a size that comes in many flavors. Maybe mregor means you can run smaller tires on your wheels?

Exactly! I went with the Nitto Invo's as the ride and cost are (IMHO) superior over the GY runflats. Trade off is I keep a pump and some plug thread in the bait wells. Sounds like the tire salesmen is "confused" on his advise.

For extremely quiet tires, try Toyo Proxes T1r. Great looking, wet/dry, ultra-high performance street tires designed exclusively for high-end sport sedans and coupes with good grip and a low price (all 4 cost me less than $900.)

These good folks aren't understanding that the GS has the same size wheels as the Z06.

I.E., there are only a few (like around 6 combined) runflat and non runflat options for us.

I found bridgestone Runflats for around $1600 on tirerack.

And I don't wanna hear any "don't go cheap on your corvette" talk because I spent $750 for all four corners on my Lamborghini.

Goodyear offers 2 sets, Michelin offers 2 different fronts but only 1 rear, and Bridgestone offers 1 set; all are run flat. You have more options if you want to try non run flat tires,

This is a NO BRAINER from someone that has replaced his Goodyears on his C6

GO WITH FIRESTONE FIREHAWK RFT (runflattires)

They are fantastic riding, quieter, about half the price of the badyears, and people have gotten up to 40,000 miles out of a set!

Interesting in checking at a Bridgestone dealer last week, the GS sizing was no longer listed as available. Not sure what that meant but..

RDHOLLAND
Please clarify that it is in fact the 2010 Grand Sport that you are discussing. You know the one with 325/30/19 rears on 19 x 12 wheels. Thanks

This is what I went to on my Z06 and I really like them. The tire sizes are the same for the Z06 and the Grand Sport. I have about 10K miles on them know and they are doing well! I have had no problems with them either in the rain. They are also a ZP (Zero Pressure a.k.a. Run Flat) tires

Point made - my bad. I guess there are so many threads about alternative tire choices, I've developed a knee-jerk reaction

Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position
Michelin PS2
Michelin PS Cup
Pirelli Corsa
Continental VMax
Nitto Invo

I was not referring to Z06 sizes but get it now. Just look up the size on any number of websites, it's not that difficult. The OP said the Goodyear salesman told him only GY's would fit. That is preposterous.

The GS has the same tires from the factory as the Z06. Goodyear Supercars. I replaced the Goodyears on my Z06 with the Bridgestone RE050A run flats for $1567 mounted and balanced including tax, from a local tire dealer.I would never put Goodyears back on my Z06.

So, you are wanting to buy a set of tires for a 2010 GS.

You will need a set of 275 / 35ZR-18 on the front, and a set of 325 / 30ZR-19 on the rear.

Like someone else told you, you will not find alot of selection in these size tires.

You need to make up your mind whether or not you want to buy run-flat or non-runflat tires on the car.

If you want to save a few dollars, I would sugest you go to the Discount Tire Direct website and buy the Nitto Invo tires. They are not run-flats, but come in the sizes you need. There is no charge for shipping to your house.

Then take the tires to a good tire shop and have them mounted and balanced on your car. That should cost about $125 total.

If you want Nitto Invo tires, don't go to the TireRack website ... they don't sell them.

Sorry for a bit of confusion. I am new to the vette set.

I have not yet bought a car. I have looked at both the GS and the base coupe. The GS I looked at definitely needs tires. I wrote the sizes down and that is what I gave to the GoodYear guy.

I am about to go look at the 2010 Coupe to see what the tire sizes are on it. It is a 2010. I also may look at a 2009 about an hour or so away that has 10k miles on it. I don't know if it would need tires yet or not.

I think I now understand my options better. Thanks for all the replies. One thing for sure, going to GoodYear and forking over $1495 (back) plus $1357 (front) for the tires, taxes etc. seems quite high!

The 2009 will have more options.

Don't even consider the GS if you want to drive it in snow. 6k on the OEM set tells me that the alignment is probably bad and/or he tracked the car. They usually last in the low teen range although I've heard as high as 20k or so.

Nittos are nice but as mentioned you have to decide if you want a non run flat or not when you WILL stop if you have a tire problem. It doesn't care if you are in a bad neighborhood, bridge, tunnel, construction zone, etc.
