Why doesn't the C6 sound like a Mustang.

what happened to the promo to build your mustang the way you want it I saw in this section a few minutes ago? All you have to do is build your stang to resemble a vette and there should be no issues with vette not sounding the part... ![Woohoo](https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/images/smilies/woohoo.gif)

I didn't read the entire thread so please forgive if someone already posted this:
In ADDITION to the firing order...I read that it is the length of the exhaust port. The distance from the exhaust valve to the end of the head is MOST of what makes that signature Mustang sound.
While I'm certainly no Mustang fan, I can agree that the Engineers at Ford got the sound right on the Mustang, and most honest people here will admit it too.

No matter how loud/nasty, high pitched, etc., you make an exhaust on a newer GM V8 it will never sound as good as a Mustang exhaust, even the stock sounding Mustang exhaust. The Mustang exhaust is like music to the ears, even at lower volumes.

[QUOTE=rfopt;1579167160]This is the first time I have read/heard about this. It's definitely believeable. Interesting.

Again .. It all has to do with the firing order ... and the LSx don't have the same firing order that the Mustang or previous small and big block Chevys have.
So ... you can't fix it, and the LSx Corvette will never sound like that Mustang, no matter what pipes you put on it.
As they say ... that's just the way it is

It can't be the sound of power because they don't have much. First thing I did with my Vette was switch out the exhaust, I went with the Bullets. I think Vette's can easily sound better than the Mustangs, just have to make the changes and they are not hard to do.

As far as not having much power, my Son's Boss 302 is 444 hp, what was your Vette stock?

I think C5 Vette's can easily be the best sounding car out there after you toss that stock exhaust system.
No Mustang sounds better than this, all it takes is headers and exhaust: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQk1rSMCKmI

Sorry, I don't agree with that. You can make them louder but you can't duplicate the nice low growl of a Mustang. I have both and there is no comparison. The Vette does not sound bad, in fact mine is pretty impressive with ARHeaders and NPP wide open. It just doesn't have the low growl of the Mustang.

The Mustangs do and always have had a great exhaust sound. No denying that.
However I have the Corsa Sports on my 05 and I have to say, it sounds really good to me. They are quiet at cruise with no droning and really start to bark when you get into the throttle.

My 07 with the corsa exhaust sounds great not to loud and can cruise for hours without any problems to the ears. My 90 foxbody gt however sounds awesome the whine of the procharger the sound of the long tube headers x pipe into flowmasters dumped in front of the axle but after a hour your ready to get out and park it. My 79 Malibu top et bracket car with the 468 BBC and open headers now that's sound baby when it's in the burn out box at 5500 Rpms in high gear it goes straight through you. It's all in what you want I guess.

Like the OP, I have admired the later model mustang exhaust note.....throaty, and deep....unlike the Chevy sound which is unique in its own way also. Hey, listen to a Ferrari.....whole different sound for a whole different buyer. Oh, as for Mustangs....I like em. If I had the room in the garage, expect I'd have a nice new 5.0 GT (right next to the new Hemi Challenger I also want!). The more makes you have, the more car clubs you can be involved in and have something going on all the time!

I prefer the dual mode C6 exhaust for the following reasons:
I enjoy listening to music, on long drives the loud exhaust gets old, draws less attention from law enforcement, and when you get on it you can feel the extra power when the exhaust opens. But hey that's just me

To my ear, the Fords have a pitch element in their sound that is a bit sharper, more staccato and maybe higher frequency. The GM's have more of a low pitch rumble..softer sound, even with the NPP open.
Rock or Jazz? Gibson or Strat? Titleist or Bridgestone?
In the eye / ear of the beholder.

Okay I'll admit the Stang sounds better than the Viper or the Vette. However, it'll never look as good, even the grabber blue GT500 - the sexiest stang ever built. I got the BB bullets which is definitely head turning, but there is a differnece between loud and throaty. I think headers will help that, however i'm scared it'll make the car too loud as a daily driver
