You'll need to argue with the courts on this, but you'll lose. Mobile 1 already went in that direction.....and lost.

you can't put conventional oil, no choice, check the manual

1st- I'm just stirring the pot because I'm bored
2nd- Mobil 1 is made from highly refined petroleum base stock.

as soon as I hit 500 miles, I will drain the Mobil and go to Amsoil

Why don't you buy some race ramps and do it yourself. Nothing special about it, just like any other car. For the price of a dealer oil change you could pay for the ramps. Just keep your receipts.

Mobil1 is full synthetic, where the GM dealer now sells (and puts in your vehicle) the Dexos spec Goodwrench oil that is a semi-synthetic.

When YOU were paying for the oil changes at the dealer, they were using Mobil1. Now that THEY are paying for the oil with the maintenance plans, they are using the Dexos spec GM Goodwrench oil because it costs less. On the CTS-V they have magically stopped putting Mobil1 oil filler caps on the engines, and I think there is a TSB telling the dealers to change them out if they are still there (my memory may be failing me here though, I have to look when I get home)

At any rate, my response to "cclive" was in regards to 4718M being sucked into the new Dexos spec. and the info in italics was pulled directly from the Dexos website. "•dexos1™ is designed for use with gasoline engines and replaces GM-LL-A-025, GM6094M and GM4718M" Basically GM is now saying that their semi-synthetic Goodwrench oil is just as good now as the full synthetic Mobil1 used to be in the good old days. I use Mobil1 in my ZR1 & CTS-V.
Goodwrench is made by Mobil to the same standard as Mobil 1.

My dealer will use Mobil if I ask for it. I guess I don't understand the issue...

This is a confusing issue now. Back in 07 to meet the GM 4718M spec required a synthetic basestock (of which there are many different types). When GM came out with the new dexos1, it replaced the GM 4718M spec. Dexos1 can be met with semi-synthetics. Making it even more confusing, dexos1 is both a spec and a GM product.

Personally, for a Vette, I'd never use semi-synthetic or conventional oil.

FYI, AMSOIL now offers three oils that meet dexos1 spec:
1. AMSOIL Signature Series 100% Synthetic 5w30 (Product Code ASLQT)
AMSOIL's best synthetic basestock and highest level of additives allowing up to 15k (or one year) oil change intervals in severe conditions. I used this line in my 06 CTS-V (LS2 engine) which was my daily driver from 06-09 when I sold it.
2. AMSOIL XL Synthetic 5w30 (Product Code XLFQT)
AMSOIL's mid-tier oil using the same basestock as most other synthetics on the market. Formulated for 10k miles/six months.
3. AMSOIL OE Synthetic 5w30 (Product Code OEFQT)
AMSOIL's lowest-tier oil using the same basestock as most other synthetics on the market. Formulated for OE oil change intervals.

For any interested, I can get any of the above for fellow Vette owners at dealer wholesale, about 25% below retail, via the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program. Drop me a PM if interested.

Always heard that synthetic oil will not cause a leak but if you have a leak it will find it. Synthetic gets to the nooks and crannies. That is also why it is better for tighter high performance engines. I think a quality Dino oil in older Corvette motors is good and maybe better but in my 2011 Corvette GM recommends Synthetic and I think they got it right.

Default oil or synthetic

I would love to change the oil my self because i like to tinker with the car, but is my Drive train warrenty still good if i do it my self and save the receipts? I need to sit down and read the fine print on the warrenty paper. I'm just going with what the dealer told me but I know not everybody speaks the truth.

A dealer can not force you to bring the vehicle to him for oil changes. If you do it yourself, just keep your receipts in a folder.

I have changed the oil and filter in all my vehicles, boats, ATVs, M/C's etc. since day one. That way I know it was done correctly, plus I save a lot of money and time that way. I keep all the receipts in a file and also record the date and mileage in a computer file. I've never had an issue with a warranty claim and you should see how impressed prospective buyers are when I show them the files when I sell. As long as you have records/receipts the dealer can not deny a warranty claim.

Hmmmm. Why does Mobil say this. Nowhere is petroleum mentioned.

It is a group 3 base stock which is petroleum. Due to the refinement of the base stock, they can call it a synthetic.
