Rear wheel center caps fell off. Found one and bought one for $80. Car is 08 Zo6 with stock chevy chrome wheels. Anyone know how to keep them on before I reinstall them? Going for a ride today along the Columbia River in WA, OR. Thanks

$80 bucks for one cap, what the heck, as bought a set of four oem polished jobs from Fichtner in MT for that a couple years back. If these are coming off, can be a sign of overheating brakes, so maybe worth looking into. Best way I know to snug the caps back up, is hitting the mounting tabs with a heat gun, and spreading them out a bit.

The center caps on my 2 C5s and 1 C6 are/were all hard to get off. If yours are loose it could be that somebody broke one of the tangs off. Have never lost a center cap while driving.

He did say chrome and the chrome ones are alot more than the polished. I had some aftermarket wheels for awhile and just put 2-3 wraps of electrical tape around the tangs and never had a problem.

One other thing, there's that bright orange "tape" which is actually just stretchy vinyl, at Home Depot. About 1" by 50 yards or some such. I've got one center cap wrapped in it (3 with teflon, 1 with stretch orange tape). The orange tape is, of course, thicker by a margin of two or three times the teflon.
So far, they both seem to work. My plastic caps were black chromed and it's expensive to get them re-done and thus, the precautions.

Chrome center caps are very expensive. Also, remember that it is winter, make sure plastic is warm before bending or flexing...expense can follow.![Thumbs Up](https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
For my 2007, Gene has the regular center caps at $22 whereas the chrome ones are $73...big diff.

As mentioned earlier, heat gun. If you need the tires replaced/serviced, the shop needs to remove the caps, ripping out any glue you might've used. I road track my car several times a year, and always pull the center caps, because of brake heat, and possibly flying off into other cars. Gluing them on, really isn't the greatest idea.
