Default Battery Tender connection options for under hood battery location

2006 with the battery located in the engine compartment. I got a battery tender as a Christmas gift. I know I can connect it with clamps etc and hang the wire out of the engine compartment over the fender. But..... has anyone installed a mouting point outside the engine compartment that can be used without raising the hood? I've see a port installed on the rear above the plate for those with batteries located in the rear area. Anyone done this up front? Where did you place it.

Or.... anyone ran the wire from the front to the rear and used the rear plate area? Seem like a long run for a live wire, if you did this, what precautions did you take? wrap, conduit? Thanks guys, I did a search and just couldn't find what I was looking for.

2005 here, I have the tender connections hooked directly to the battery. I bought an extension cord (from Amazon) and ran it along the passenger side under the hood and then out the grill right next to the license plate, up here we have front license plates. I back it into the garage and hook up the tender to the connector in the front, no need to open the hood. Been that way for years and never a problem. I think this was the one I got...

WHY NOT RUN IT TO THE CIGERETTE LIGHTER?
It is the simplest, quickest way. No need for opening hood or hatch, and you won't forget to unplug it before driving away.. I have used it on my last two Vettes!

when you do this, is the quick connect plug in the floor?

but with this way, I’d still have an extension cord out the window right?

Yes. I've found this the best. Connections are with proper connections to battery not alligator clamps. Works great and I've used this for many years no issues. Recommend ! Cigarette lighter cord connection seems lame and possibly to not working and why have a cord out of passenger compartment you're not sure where to place cord. Do a simple little work and it's worth it with extension cord.

You can use either the cig port or the power port in the console (assuming the 2005 has one). There’s a notch cast into the door sill where you can exit the cord, and it won’t pinch the cord when the door is shut. I’ve been doing this for 7 winters now. I’m not the only one, either.

There is no quick connect, no extra wiring in the car at all... You run the cord out the bottom of the door.

If the tender has the plug disconnect, wire the plug side in the engine compartment at either the alternator or battery. Have the plug come out at the top of the hood by the windshield wiper shaft. Keep the plug tucked under the hood till you need it. The tender is mounted to the garage ceiling and plugged into the garage opener plug....wire lead comes off a hook and drops right down to the plug

And nobody tell me "bad idea cause it may get wet and short out in the rain".....had mine that way for more years than I can count.

This is where I have mine connected. I'm going to get an extension for it and run it to the nose of the car when I install my Morimoto headlights and front camera.

Just take the battery out and put it in your closet like i do every year. When you decide to drive it again just reinstall it and reindex your windows. No more battery tender needed. it is not this difficult people. save your money.

This is where this battery tender fit. I have a larger one on my JKU which wouldn’t fit where this one does on my vette. So it’s really where you can find the best fit under the hood. I’ve have under the hood battery tenders mounted on all 3 of my vehicles and have for many years. Wouldn’t have it any other way imo....

Here's another way to use your battery tender: A magnetic quick connect hardwired to the fuse box and mounted in the grill.

The battery tender can be connected or disconnected in 5 sec. even with the car under it's cover. No messing with plugs or cords out the door or open hood. Quick & easy

i made the oem battery in wife’s camaro last 10 years by keeping it on tender
putting it in closet won’t keep it fully charged

I did what WJNJR did but I bought the mounting pod for mine, mounted it in the same place as well. I love the magnetic connector because IF you forget to unhook it, it’ll come off without tearing up anything (saved me twice already). The magnetic connector and the mounting pod can all be bought from Hethelsport, dont remember exactly how much it all was though, sorry.

This is the kit w/optional mounting pod

Here's a writeup I did on it when I did this about a year ago.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...r-install.html

If I were to do it again I'd do one of the magnetic connectors, but I haven't found it to be too much of a hassle. Also, if/when I eventually take off the front fender I'll add another clip so that the wire stops trying to move so much.
