I'd love to see the Z06 with a sleek, contoured heavy duty roll bar with a removable FRC hardtop needed for track days. Why is this so foreign to Chevys engineers and management?

If the Z is based on the coupe with a removeable top, why can't the roof be removed without a "flex" problem?

That's not totally accurate - the frame on the Z is aluminum, and in order to save on weight, GM had to go with fixed roof. That's why I opted to go with fixed glass roof. And I know Caravaggio has done targa conversion. I just wanted it to be different.

Good eye - that's the Mild-To-Wild control switch.

That's true but I thought the frame was 3 times as thick to gain back that strength. Anyway, what you've done to your Z is fantastic. I wish I could find someone close by to do the same.

Far out!!!

Very nice, original touches. I applaud any tasteful customization -- especially if your the ONLY one to do so, so far!

Very

EDIT: BTW, was this originally a euro-spec model? It just seems like I see the side marker on the fenders like the euro versions?

Thanks I appreciate the nice comments. The local shows have been fun; and so has the drag strip of course - can't forget those 630 Lingenfelter ponies. If it were not for the extra power the car now has, I probably would have gone targa. But I am very please with this set-up. It's awesome now when you cruise around at night with your date....

Thanks Jim - the euro lights were add-ons when we replaced the emblems. They're actually the same as in the Caddy STS.

OMG!, how do you ever have time to drive the car, every time i see it you've done something else. What's the next project?, I know your not finished. I know you like those gray wheels, but some 360's' or HRE's would really make that car pop!

I'll let you in on a little secret - we're working on getting a carbon-fiber 360 Forged set of wheels to go with the new CF splitter and diffuser (also in the near future).

Just keeping this thread alive since there appears to be renewed interest in this conversion. I had a 2006 coupe before I made the leap to the Z06, and I miss the transparent roof that I almost never removed.

I'll be contacting this shop in the near future. Hopefully they did not set aside the project and are actually moving forward with a service to offer this.

As opposed to what option? All the factory roof panels for all the C6s including the Targas have the exact same magnesium frame. They only differ in the mounting hardware - Targas have removable hardware, Z06/ZR1 are designed for bolts. As long as the frame is bolted in, you can use any frame you want with same structural results.

Almost as strong, but not 100%. The Z06 still needs the permanent roof member. Even so, the Z06 has only 98% the torsional stiffness of a C6 Coupe with it's roof panel in place.

I was a big proponent of the "screw the fixed roof on the Z06". It was fine on my 02Z, but not on my 06. When I removed the roof panel on my 06, the car flexed noticeably over bumps. So much so that the roof was back in within the week. And you don't want to screw around with the AL frame: once it deforms, it's permanent.
