Just have the serial number run by your local GM dealer to make sure there are no outstanding issues that need to be resolved.

Since the 90's anytime I've looked at a Corvette pilot car they were usually beat up or driven hard. These cars were put through the ringer to some degree. Also I don't know if you care about a car being driven in the snow, rain, etc, but the drivers of the cars didn't really care what the weather was like. Look very closely at the underside of the car, the rockers, paint on the front end under florescent light. You can also look inside the wheel wells and see if the plastic's have a lot of road rash etc.

Like others have said pull a GM history on the car and see what kind of work might have been done to the car. The car would really need to be priced right or have to be some insanly rare color to consider.

Good luck

By pilot car are you referring to the first 60 made in 2008 (2009 model) with YY in vin mumber. Many were not beat on but were display cars or gm exc. cars. I have car #35.

The Mule cars (pilot) had a 7 in the VIN as the sixth number from the right. Example - 700023. This was only the 2009 MY ZR1s. If the ZR1 was a dealer car like all of ours are, the VIN will have an 8 in the sixth posistion from the right. Example - 800023 (23 being the 23rd car made in line). There is only one ZR1 with a number 9 as the sixth digit from the right (900001). That is Dave Resler's car that he bought at Barret Jackson which is the only Le Mans Blue ZR1 in exsistance. (paid $1,000,000 for). Therefore there are actually three #1 ZR1s, with VIN 700001 being the very first one.

These first run ZR1s also had a YY in the vin. There were 60 of them made.

As some posters say chances are these press car have been severely abused. I'll definitively pass.

LOL this question might have been slightly relevant 8 years ago when they op started this thread. Now with all of the pilot cars still on the road I think the C6 ZR1 has proven to be fairly reliable and if that isn't proof enough here's my pilot car getting abused like I do all the time. I mean if your not running it hard why did you even buy one?
