Default NT05s v. Invos, wet and dry?

Anyone have experience with these two tires? I'm interested in ride and noise, as well as wet and dry traction.

Thanx!

I don't have much to add but this one fact addresses one of your questions:

NT05s have much better dry traction than Invos.

I had nt05s for 6 months an switched to invos in march. I like the invos so much more than the nt05s. I only got 8000 mile out of the nt05s with no tracking, drag racing, etc. Only normal driving plus hard acceleration in 2nd/3rd. The wet traction got really scary towards the end of the tires life. Changing lanes when the road was wet was rough. I would drive 45-50mph on rainy days on freeways.

The invos have a lot better traction in the rain. They seem to have more tread so i expect them to last a lot longer than to nt05s did. Dry traction seems to be better. No sure why. I felt like the nt05s didn't grip a well as they were supposed to. Maybe the tires needed a lot more warming up to do before they gripped. I always broke traction in 1st at full throttle around 5k rpms so i only accelerated hard in 2nd gear and up. On to invos i break traction only once in a while and it's probably due to them not being warmed up.

I'm going to continue using invos in the future. Hope that helps

From Nitto's website comparing the Invo to the NT05. 1-5 with 5 being the best.

Ride comfort...
Invo -5, NT05 -2

Quietness...
Invo -5, NT05 -2.5

Wet Performance...
Invo -4, NT05 -3.5

Dry Performance...
Invo -4, NT05 -4.5

As you can see the Invo rates higher then The NT05 in all categories except for dry traction, and then it isn't that much.

NT05 is one of the best, if not the best, dry traction lateral grip street tires made. As a street dedicated tire, the Invo would be the choice. Since I track my street tires, I run NT05s which are better than oems in dry lateral grip, noise and comfort. Equal to oems in the wet and for tire life. Worse than oems for turn in response.

The tread depth of a new NT-05 is 7 mm. A new Invo has 10 mm tread. That's why I went with the Invos for my Z06. I had them on my previous coupe and they are on my Infiniti G35. They are good tires.

+3.

Invo's for street-biased use. NT's for track-biased.

I'm running 345/295 setup and really like them.

(took a bit to get used to the slower turn in vs runflats)

If you weren't driving on the track it seems like you should have gotten more mileage than that. I just took off my NT05s after 26 track days (~ 2600 miles), quite a few autocrosses and some street driving. I probably have about 4K miles on them in total. They have seen plenty of hard turns where the fronts were squealing like stuck pigs, many spinning launches at autocrosses. They are just getting to the wear bars due to the funny way the tread wears along the center strip. If they weren't totally heat cycled out there is enough rubber left to get me through another 10 track days but at the last autocross they had less grip than a chunk of hot butter.

Actually, the tread depth is measured in /32 of an inch not mm. Makes a little difference as 10/32 =.3125" and 10mm = .3937". That is a little over 2/32" error in tread depth.

I've ran both tires and absolutely hated the Invos. I ran the Invos for about a month before I sold em and went back to NT05's.

The Nitto site is pretty accurate. In my personal experience, I would rate them as:

Dry: NT05 (10) vs. INVO (7)
Wet: NT05 (8) vs. INVO (10)
Noise: NT05 (9) vs. INVO (9)
Tread life: NT05 (8) vs. INVO (9)

I couldn't stand the wobble and shift on corners with the soft sidewalls of the INVOS, and lateral accelleration wasn't good. I had to let off in first to get traction, and hard 1st to 2nd shifts were scetchy.

With the NT05's I can stay on it in first and it feels like I'm on slicks. Just grips and goes. And on the corners they're solid. No wobble or play in the sidewall.

My mistake

You are correct. Its 10/32 vs 7/32 inch. We Canadians work back and forth in metric/English units all the time and I had a short circuit there.

You think you got it bad, try being a hillbilly. I gave up years ago and now just use a monkey wrench on all bolt heads.

Just installed my second set of Invo's last week. They are great street tires, and I do not track my Z.

Invos for wet, NT05s for dry.

I find the NT05s to match the characteristics of a NEW F1SC EMT pretty closely, with a bit better dry traction. Ride and noise is about equivalent.

Invos are better in ride/noise/wet weather performance, but SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK for dry handling.

Had the Invos on my Z and loved them. Great in the rain too. Only complaint was a soft sidewall, especially coming from RF's.

Have the NT's on my E55 which dropped my 60' to a 1.7 however, the tread life is really short.

Can't go wrong with either tire imo !!
