Default What is the best fuel pump to run E85?

I have a built RHS 447 motor in my Z06. I want to convert the car to be able to use E85. I know when you use E85, you use more fuel therefore you need a high voulme fuel pump to compensate.

I am not a very knowledgeable car guy, so I am looking for some opinions. The car should make over 600 N/A on E85...so nothing crazy. But it is better to be safe than sorry. I live in Colorado and we can really on get 91 octane out here. I want something better.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Aeromotive makes a real nice in tank a1000 set up. It should be plenty of pump for your setup, maybe even enou gh for a little spray if you want. Also, check out house of boost's complete fuel system that utilizes this pump. It looks like a nice system, IMO that nice motor needs a nice fuel system.

I've got a 454ci RHS tall deck that I run E85 in and I'm using the stock OEM fuel pump without any issues. What makes you think it needs to be changed? Did you add larger injectors?

Honestly...I don't know. I just assumed that "stock parts" in most situations, aren't able to handle a lot more power (in all respects).

I would just rather be safe than sorry. Especially when it comes to fuel. As I have stated, it is really embarrassing on how little I know about cars.

From the few posts, it sounds like I might be alright. BTW, how much RWHP does your 454 RHS tall deck motor make?

Thanks for the reply.

your stock pump would be JUST FINE! actually more than enough! you are at 5500+! which means you will have about 100whp power lose at around 600whp N/A!

I am in CO too and I was at 600whp with the stock pump on E85 with perfect fuel pressure with 60# injectors (at 59% duty cycle!!) I will be at ~650whp now and will still be running the stock fuel pump and probably a 100shot on top for starter!! people at sea-level are running around 650whp N/A on E85 and a 75-100shot with no problems (ask Carlos@vette-air!!). thats around 750whp corrected here!! 150whp more than what you will have!!

Sure, a 1" Blackmer pump flows about 35GPM. That should cover your fueling needs.

Seriously, you're going to go thru fuel like Micheal Jackson did propofol!

Just change the injectors to FAST 65 lb/hr ones and find a good tuner. Finding a good tuner is probably the most important part of the equation. About 567 HP on a Mustang dyno. A lot will depend on cam choice. I built mine with torque in mind and don't want to have to rev it past 6,500.

For that setup, We would recommend the Injector Dynamics ID850s. enough fuel for 800 hp NA on E85.

Why E85? Just asking. I have an H2 that is equipped to run on E85 and I avoid it like the plague.

Carlos was on a boost-a-pump as well. I also think he burned his pump up at least that's what I recall hearing from Patrick.

I had to add a BAP to my fuel system earlier this week because I was running out of fuel pump at 620rwhp at sea level on E85 and I am running 83# injectors. We were hitting 100% duty cycle due to low fuel pressure up top...could not richen the car up beyond 12.0 just to play with the tune. Last night I took the car out with the current maps and the BAP and we were running around 10.3 at WOT, so I know I can go ahead and pull the fuel we threw at it back out and get the fuel maps dialed in again. We wanted to richen it up with a bit more timing, but couldn't....hence all this drama.

oh ok. I was under the impression that he was running the stock fuel pump with no bap! but again your 620whp would be around 520-530whp here!! the OP will be at 600whp (500whp uncorrected!) so should still have more than enough!

Your H2 was not designed specifically to use E85 and to take advantage of the benefits it can offer. It is just another option of fuel that it can run in that vehicle to make people think they are helping the evrironment. In an engne like yours (~10:1 cr) there is not enough compression to justify the use of E85. If you were to mill the heads and increase the comp ratio, you would see gains in power, especially tq. I also have a GM flex fuel vehicle (2011 Z71 truck with a 6.2) and it only drinks more fuel when I run E85. I go from 15mpg down to 10.5-11.0 mpg without changing my driving habits or increase in performance.
