C6 Corvette ZR1 & Z06General info about GM’s Corvette Supercar, LS9 Corvette Technical Info, Performance Upgrades, Suspension Setup for Street or Track
Hell no....but of course there's going to be some C7-fanboi/C6Z hater to come here and argue otherwise.
Or, someone who loves both, owns both, and knows what he is talking about (re: Z06's) could argue otherwise...and that opinion would be disregarded as well. Why? Because we are flawed, tribal creatures who choose to believe what we want to believe, regardless of the facts and valid points of view put forth.
In stock form, with equally skilled drivers, the C6 Z06 would out perform a base C7. However, the C7's improved tech keeps it close, and the upgraded interior gives it a much better overall driver/passenger experience...especially the Z51 variant.
The C7 Z06: Best Corvette ever. Period.
Still, the C6 Z06 with that 427 remains a classic.....the pinnacle of an era.

Honestly, I had a friend of mines z51 2014 for a weekend. Drove it on a 400 ish mile trip. Drove it around for the weekend. My passenger and i hurt for 2 days from the seats and i felt cramped it was so tiny inside. Yea..gadgets are ok..but i was uncomfortable and so was my passenger. Jump forward. I fly to new jersey and pick up my 08Z. Drive it 1500 miles home in 3 days. Ran tail of the dragon. Any detours we wanted on the ride. Neither of us for one second was uncomfortable or hurting. Im not believing this argument of it has better seats ..more comfortable etc. Pretty dash tho.
Personally, I think C7's are ugly, heavy, and I certainly don't consider a forced-induction car the "ultimate" or "best ever" version of a car designed for road course work.
I can't speak for road race, but I can speak for 1/2 mile acceleration.
The question is not C7 vs C6Z. The question is C7 vs C6 (2008+).
My good friend and I went to wannaGOFAST last month. I got a fist full of 161+ MPH time slips (best of 162.9) in my C6Z HCI. My friend in his BONE STOCK 2012 C6 M6 ran 144 mph like clockwork, with a best of 144.9.
There wasn't a stock Stingray present that topped broke 140 mph. So, yeah, LS3 can put the hurt on an LT1 in the 1/2 mile. Wouldn't believe it unless I saw it, but the track doesn't lie.
There wasn't a C6Z going less than 151 mph. The C7 would be a train length behind.
Again, this is straight line accel (in other words 99% of all competitive driving the average driver will compare their cars with). Road race could be different. But straight line, the LS3 is superior to the Stingray. LS7 is in a different league, a borderline retarded question IMO.
OK, so you have seriously piqued my interest, fellow Texan or transplant (as I am). "Best Corvette ever"? Not being sarcastic because I have been contemplating the C7 Z06 myself, but here are a few questions that your insight, on owing both would help.
C7Z06, lower published top speed than C6 Z06 and ZR1.
C7Z06 having difficulty making around a track session more than 3 laps in hard driving at normal summer driving temps.
1/2 Mile top speeds no different than my 2011 Z07.
At the Texas Mile in October where ambient temps never made it above 70 degrees every C7 Z06 running had 10 lb ice bags over the superchargers between runs, while two other ZR1 members, that I am acquainted with ran their stock ZR1's sans ice to 179 and 183 top speeds, respectively?
My vote still goes to the C6 ZR1 as the "King" please prove me wrong, I want to believe.

I can't "PROVE" you, or anyone, wrong on this topic. See my original words. No matter the facts, humans will be humans and pick the tribes they want.
The C6Z tribe will point to the LT4/LS9 heat challenges.
The C7 tribe will point to the LS7 valve challenge.
BTW, 99% of owners of these cars will not thrash them and will not have either of these issues...but that won't matter. The tribes will persist.
Top speed - ZR1 would probably take that crown. But, it has much less downforce than the C7Z, which is one big reason the top Corvette lap times at notable tracks, such as Willow Springs, go to the C7Z.
The interior tech of the C7Z is top shelf: front/rear cameras, PDR, etc.
You can also get the A8 transmission, which is truly great IMHO, and you can even take the roof off of the coupe or get a convertible - some reasons why I say the C7Z (platform) is the best yet.
Proving people wrong - I won't try it!! I don't expect anyone to read one of my posts and then say "Oh, ok....now I get it. I was wrong. The C7 is better." Humans are not built that way.
Willow Springs data points, though:
C7Z comes in behind only the Viper ACR, Porsche 918, and McLaren 675LT @ 125.00
ZR1 comes in at #17 @ 129.69, behind even the Camaro Z/28
C6Z comes in at #25 @ 132.06, behind even the Cadillac ATS-V

C6Z = favorite Corvette ever.
C7Z = best Corvette ever.
I'm OK with those two designations being different.
Well, thanks for the response, however I did not see anything that would move me, albeit, not your intent.
The only camp I am in is Corvette.
From my perspective, and again only my perspective and criteria the ZR1 is still King. If Chevy fixes the cooling/overheating issues without owners having to go out and install their own coolers and aftermarket radiators, I may change my mind.

Cheers, indeed. You can't go wrong with a ZR1. Great car. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the cars in this camp, honestly!
