Clutch master cylinder would be my suspicion.

Flatbed it to a reputable dealer who can work on your ZR1.

If you can start the engine with the shifter in neutral position, but it dies/lugs if you try starting in first gear position that would suggest to me the flywheel is engaging and you have not burned out your clutch.

I had my clutch master cylinder go out a month ago. It acted as you describe. No fluid leaks under car or on road behind me, reservoir full and not overheated.

Master cylinder was $147.82, labor $495, total cost was $735 to replace with tow (they didn't take AAA)

Scott.

either way, there may be special coverage for this.

I had mine replaced for free on my 11' w/17000k and I wasn't having any problems just fluid change. they said it was going to go out anyways as has factory defects

I don't know what they're actually calling it but they said they would replace it free under the special warranty because that master cylinder has been noted to have defects is all I know. A very reputable Chevy Corvette dealer in Dallas is who I dealt with. Let us know how it turned out

When I had my 08 C6 Z I received a letter from GM about the special coverage advising me what the terms were. Since I was having clutch issues right then I took it in and had the master cylinder replaced. That was in Sept or October of 2015. It was completely covered under the special warranty.

My 427 clutch failed exactly as you described on Sunday. Called for flatbed tow, car is at the Chevy dealer now.

Today they notified me that the clutch master cylinder failed. The part is on order, should be repaired tomorrow. Apparently this is a known/common problem with C6 Z06-ZR1. Now, the good news: the dealer told me the repair cost is covered by Chevrolet despite the car being out of warranty.

Cheers,
JB

Mine failed Sunday evening. I had to unbolt the splitter to get it on the tow truck. It's at the dealer and they are replacing it for free just like yours. The fluid was black as coal. Car has 4100 miles on it.

About a year ago, GM sent me a "special warranty" notice stating my ZR1 clutch operating system is covered to 100,000 miles. I have 35K on my CMG 2010 and have had no clutch problems. However, when I got the car, with 9200 miles, the clutch fluid had never been changed. It was nasty.

If you have to tow I would. It's just a bunch of 7mm bolts. It made getting it on and off the flat bed wrecker a breeze.

Make sure they run their cables under the car, between the front tires and back to the holes in the frame.

Do not let them hook onto the suspension or front k member. Also make sure they use tire hold downs and the not hooks once it's up on the truck.

These cars are really low and hard to see under, an inexperienced tow truck driver will just hook the sway bar or something....not good.

My tow driver had a collection of planks he placed under the wheels during on/off loading. No scraping, I didn't need to remove the splitter.

I got the 427 home today, running like a beast again. And they did a hand wash before returning the car.

$0 cost to repair.

Cheers,
JB

If the driver does not have a collection of boards to use, then what? It takes ten minutes to get it off, and it's 1700.00 to replace it, your call.
