Is the shift **** on the c5 a thread on or press on? I wanna replace the stock one with a hurst pistol grip. if it is thread on does anyone know thread size (pitch and diamter)?

There are several posts of people who replaced their shifter. Choose one of those shifters, go to their website and look up the "replacement" manual. It will tell you how to remove the shiftknob, how to replace it with an aftermarket, etc. It is not threaded. It has a lock key on it. I know of no one who has replaced theirs with a pistol grip, or the old Hurst T Handle. Let me know if you are successful.

Although this is the C6 forum, I'm guessing by your avatar that you are indeed referring to the C5 shifter and ****.

The C5 **** has a retaining key that is pulled straight up vertically (you'll need vise grips and a hammer to grip it and tap it out). the key is underneath the cap with the shift pattern.

The **** then unscrews -- thread size is 9/16-18.
