OEM GM LS3 and LS7 lifters ... same lifters

I am thinking that these lifters are a great choice ... as long as you don't go crazy high with the valve spring pressure.

Real high spring pressures are hard on the entire valvetrain.

Just my opinion, but I think many of us here are running higher valve spring pressures than we actually need, and that's a big contributing factor to the many valvetrain problems that are posted here .. Again, just my opinion.

Bringing this thread back due to continuing interest, because good lifters are so important. I'm willing to pay for quality lifters. Now that the GM LS7 lifters have shot to the moon in price for OEM lifters (close to $500.00 now!!), unless you want to chance Bozo's (Amazon) junk, which I refuse to do. To review, I have a built LS7, and I'm running PAC 1905 springs. They have 160lbs seat, 420lbs open. New Cam Motion cam will be .630" lift I., .640" lift E., 238° duration I., 246° duration E., on a 114° LSA. LS7 lifters have served me pretty well, so far. But at $500.00 for a set, it's time to get opinions and shop around. Johnson 2110R's look pretty good, but are even more pricey. I'm starting to see some complaints about Morels, so IDK what exactly to think about that. I dont want to run the Cadillac lifters. What's left, and would appreciate input from you guys. TIA......

I respect your opinion. What makes you shy away from the Caddy lifters? Unlike the LS7/LS3 lifters, they seem to be pretty consistent in their quality. Personally, I wouldn't go north of .620 lift on any street cam with any hydraulic roller lifter. Playing for money....ehh, that could change things. I'd add duration before getting into big lift stuff though.

For me it’s Johnson lifters and nothing else.

There were several reports in the earlier sets of Caddy lifters that had failures but I think pretty much all of the later sets were fine.
For the money I personally think the best lifter for the money are the Morel 7717’s. They seem to be as good or better than the GM performance LS7 lifters but a lot cheaper. I currently have a like new set for sale if someone is interested.
I replaced them with a pricey set of Johnson 2110R’s in attempt to quieten down my valvetrain. It wasnt the lifters causing the noise though… I had both Delphi LS7 lifters in then Morels and the Morels were definitely quieter.
If you don’t mind spending the money I would go with Johnson’s but if you’re looking for a budget lifter then I definitely recommend Morels.

I bought an early set of Caddy lifters, say 2009, and the lifter bodies on all 16 lifters were .001" smaller than the normal .842 O.D. They all were at .841. So I'm leery of running them again. Even if the newer ones are at .842, what internal dimensions may be off? The'yre made for racing, and for racing they may be great. But AT LEAST 95% of my driving is done at 2,500 rpm, and under. I knew something was wrong as soon as the engine was fired the first time, because the hot oil pressure was down around 5lbs.....
