C7 Z06 - Good first car?

I'd imagine insurance would be 4-5k per year for a teenager.
I pay $1600 and I'm 42
Honestly, you should check the insurance as a first step
also, IMO it's a bad idea, I could not have handled this power when I was a teenager, however I would have sworn that I could

I think it is great you are goal oriented and want such an awesome car.
I do not think a C7-Zo6 is a good first car from a pure financial reason. The payments will be substantial and the insurance will be significant. To drop that much money on a deprecating asset when you need to worry about college and buying a house does not make sense.
Now if you can find a C6 or c5-zo6 for the right price I would start there. Good luck!!

Thank you for the replies, everybody! This will definitely be something I'd have to think over for a long time and make sure I can afford it, as I know they aren't cheap at all. I'm currently working 2 jobs and ill be picking up extra work for the summer, so I'll have to see how far that will get me. A lot of the replies that are based around the responsibility of driving a car like this and the pure power of the car are definitely something I have to think about because I know that it's no ordinary 200hp car. My situation with houses and such I don't plan until later in my life, as I have the plan to move out with a friend and split the rent for a few years until we can get better-paying jobs and afford our own places, and I wanted to take advantage of being able to live with my parents for free or with little cost before I have to fully support myself, but I understand that the payments will still be crazy. I don't know if I'll get exactly a C7 Z06 but that's what I hope for, thank you, everyone!

You probably won't get that reference.
Work hard and save that money for a trade school or college education. Going into non-asset debt at a young age is a terrible idea.
There are plenty of fun, affordable cars out there. Get a vintage manual VW beetle. I promise the girls will find it way more interesting than a Corvette.
Vettes are for old folks like us.

A Z06 for a 16 year old is bat-**** crazy. Period.

Have a house or condo already? Have anything saved up or invested? If the answer to either of those questions is no, then a Z06 isn't a good first car.

That’s a fantastic idea, buy a 70K car with 650 horsepower what could possibly go wrong 😑

You definitely have good taste at such a young age, but realistically, a Z06 would be the LAST vehicle I would recommend to a teenager. The capabilities of the C7Z06 undoubtedly would get you into a serious bind one way or another. Definitely admire your inquiry and wish you good luck finding a cool car to enjoy 👍

I got one at 19 and I survived... It was a gift so I didnt really have to struggle though financially for it.
edit: Also i grew up with nice cars and ran with friends who had similar cars. We never raced or really did anything stupid. On ramps are fair game though

aside from the obvious reasons why this is a bad idea, think of the cheese factor too dude.
Having a hot car like that and living with your parents is pretty lame if you are honest with yourself, let alone not having a nice place of your own.
What if you meet some hot chick and take her for a ride and she wants to go back to your place? What are you going to say?
"hold on let me check if my mom is still up"
Talk about a buzz kill
And if that isn't reason enough, if you get a Z06 as a teenager, where do you go from there? GT3 in your 20's, McLaren by 30's? What if you peak as a teenager?
There's a reason most of us are 40+. We worked for longer than you've been alive thus far and waited until it made some sense

Hah no way! I had a v6 mustang as a first car then v8 mustang in college and then 5.0 mustang when I graduated and then corvettes from 24 on.
if I had a corvette at 16 I would have got in a loooooot of trouble. Especially a z06. I was a dumb kid saved by a slower car

Sounds like a bunch of downers in here. Do what makes you happy, get what you want. I know it’s not a Z06 but I got me a low mileage C7 stingray at 20. I’m 21 and couldn’t be happier with my purchase. Your age is irrelevant if you’re in a good financial position and can swing it COMFORTABLY. Just because most people your age get beaters doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing that you worked hard and got what you wanted.

I'm 16 and I've been interested in corvettes for quite some time. At such a young age I'm not able to afford the payments of one right now, but I was thinking if I work really hard, around 18 or 19 is when I'd consider getting one. But my main question is; is it a good car for somebody like me?
I understand the risks of buying a car as powerful as a corvette, and with time and practice, I think I could handle it responsibly. I already know not to do dumb things, like racing on small roads or just racing in general, excessive speeding, showing off too much, etc. The only thing I'm worried about is how I'd be able to pay for it, and if paying a lot for payments and insurance is all worth it.

The lower Esses at VIR are nick-named Corvette Alley since so many people have wrecked their Corvettes there over the years. A lot of them got into trouble by trying to be too aggressive on the throttle thus inducing throttle oversteer right at the wrong time. All recent model Corvettes have a lot of low-end power the Z06 just has a lot more of it so is harder to manage.

Perfect timing re: Christmas Story ! I almost pissed my pants laughing.
Save & invest your money kid. You can certainly harness a great vehicle for lot less cost. You will thank yourself when you turn thirty.
