Default Ground Effects

I’m just filling out my order form and my excel sheet from my dealer does not have the carbon painted ground effects listed. It does have the carbon fiber group for an additional $1000. I wonder if GM has it on constraint so it’s not being offered?

are you talking about the splitter? if you look at the Z51 pkg.....the splitter is different, it doesn't have the little extensions/wings at the ends.....the GE Pkg splitter is like the one above and that is similar to the C7's Z06 splitter. like are on my C7

This is my personal interpretation of the various RPO codes for pieces described as "ground effects kit" or "rocker panel extensions.

Rocker Panel Extensions - (full length side pieces with winglets only, no front splitter)
SJI - constructed of carbon fiber and painted with carbon flash metallic paint. $2,920 <-- on constraint
S6S - constructed of carbon fiber and finish is visible carbon fiber $3,420 <-- on constraint
STI - "molded in color" and I have no idea what this means. Can't find more info. $550 <-- not listed as constrained on "accessories ramp-up plan" but also nobody seems to know what it is...

Ground Effects Kit - (full length side pieces with winglets, and a front splitter that has winglets as well, more aggressive looking and protrudes further forward than the Z51 front splitter)
5W8 - constructed of carbon fiber and painted with carbon flash metallic paint. $3,850 <-- on constraint
5VM - constructed of carbon fiber and finish is visible carbon fiber $4,850 <-- available right away
5V7 - "molded in body color" and I have no idea what this means. Can't find more info. $695 <-- on constraint

Exactly why I'll wait and get them from one of our forum outlets after the fact. I don't want any constraints mucking up my order at BG

Looks more than anything unless you're into some serious hard core track racing. Just MHO

I cant see how they provide downforce or redirect air...I'm thinking their just for looks...gm needs to explain what their options do not just name them...if they actually did something I would add them but if they just hit curbs I'm not intrested...the car looks fine without them

I think you guys have it backwards with the rocker extensions, versus the ground effects. I think the white car has the rocker extensions, and they will come in, body color, painted Carbon Flash, or Visible Carbon Fiber.. The gray car, actually has the ground effects on it.

Will be waiting for a full mag road test to see what generates downforce and what is gingerbread.

Hmm, IMO the side skirts (or whatever they are called depending which you pick) are what are needed. Not for looks BUT to keep pebbles thrown from the front tires from dining the rocker panles!

In my 2014 Z51, even with GM Splash guards my rocker panes were dinged within a month and since they were covered in GM protective plastic only it was damaged. Added LG Motorsports full length rockers. All dings stopped. Removed the marked up and discolored GM plastic. When I sold the car 3 1/2 years later, the rocker panels looked new.

When I ordered the Grand Sport got the Stage 2 Aero Package ($2995) that include full length Side Skits and Splitter. Mine are carbon fiber painted carbon flash- $1000 less than the visible carbon fiber option.

Will order the same for my C8. But instead of getting the Scrape Armor splitter protector I'll order the front lift option. If getting carbon fiber splitter need some protection or the new lift option, IMO.

Depends on your area, but I would not buy a C7 or C8 without getting or adding full length side skirts. In 2 1/2 years have no marks on my Grand Sport rocker panels OR the brake duct fender vents. Removed the small amount of GM plastic that came with the car.

Doubt you'll find a magazine measuring downforce or even commenting about their functionality. These PDFs I made re spoilers, air dams and diffusers may be of interest: http://netwelding.com/Air_Dam.pdf and http://netwelding.com/Rear_Diffuser.pdf

Side skirts add area to the low pressure re under the car, increasing downforce. How much and at what speed requires wind tunnel testing and CAD airflow software. GM no doubt has the numbers and speeds. In my case I get the side skirts to stop rocker panel dings and IMO hey "Look Good!"

Does anybody have a picture of the C8 with no rocker extensions?
What does it look like in regular no options trim?
Thanks
