Default Interior Carbon Fiber package

Who else thinks GM missed the mark with Interior Carbon Fiber package. Besides the pieces that change to Carbon Fiber I think the door and between seat speaker grills should also be Carbon Fiber or at least black when selecting this package.

Hopefully aftermarket will have options for this.

Agreed, there does not seem to be many pieces of carbon in the package

I ordered it solely for the dash. I’m happy.

To each his own, I get it. What I don’t get is the cost. If you get all the CF options isn’t it like $15,000 - $20,000? How much weight advantage could we be talking about. Would on at least a few pieces like the interior be ok in fake CF for half the cost?

Has anyone seen actual CF interior pieces to know if they have a matte or gloss finish?

Those parts are finely perforated speaker grilles - doesn't make sense to make them out of CFRP. Black painted metal would eventually chip and wear through. And black plastic would look and feel cheap.

Ha... Bose offers high end stainless steel speaker grills and people complain. No matter what GM does people complain.

The entire point of the C8 interior was to get away from any interior plastics... they did that wonderfully. As a side effect, you have less places to turn that plastic into carbon fiber.

Funny you mention weight advantage. In the case of the engine appearance package, the carbon fiber option actually ADDS weight since without the option those panels are not there.

I doubt there is really any weight advantage to any of the carbon fiber options. They are all purely visual enhancements. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I happen to love the look myself, but don't get caught up in thinking you are reducing weight by checking those boxes when ordering.

Don't see how this is a "missed" mark as if its some kind of fail on GM's part. If anything the after market will eventually be teaming with all the OVERPRICED carbon fiber options you could want.

I don't think it needs it. I love carbon fiber trim but I think the aluminum on the speakers creates a nice contrast to the darker parts of the cabin.

I agree. It matches just fine with all the other aluminum bits such as the DCT paddles, switches, etc.

I am certain that the aftermarket community will provide plenty of CF (real or only appearance) replacement parts for the C8 interior, even those ones you are wanting.

Silver painted plastic look cheap. Actual machined aluminum does not look cheap at all. The C8 speaker grills look good.

I wish someone would make carbon replacement for the chrome strip that goes along the dash from side to side.
I did my steering wheel and love it.

Put it (carbon fiber) to bed already. If there's a practical reason for saving weight/needing strength, then I get it. Otherwise, it's horrifically expensive and lets face it, from a cosmetic perspective, it's tweed, not to mention very last generation (as well as the one before) Corvette!! And it's not like we haven't had tweed around for a couple of centuries!!!!
Tweed:

Carbon Fiber:

Maybe automotive design should bring back corduroy interiors and vinyl tops... I think Carbon Fiber (unless there's a weight/structural issue) fits right in with them....
