I guess I dance to a different drummer than most of you guys. Every time I leave the house, I reach for my hat, sunglasses, and key fob. I wear my sunglasses all the time outside. They even enhance my vision in rain, sleet, snow, or sunshine. When I am not wearing them, I park them on top of the bill of my hat. I have worn sunglasses since I entered the USAF in '66. I never leave my sunglasses in the car unless it's pouring down rain when I get out. That is a very rare situation when I am driving the Vette. I guess it goes back to the old cliche", "difference strokes for different folks."

I don't own a handgun, and, if I did, I would not have a reason to keep it in the car.

Thank you for your contribution to the conversation between those that do own one, and do have a reason to have it in the car.

For those that are still waiting on delivery of our C8, how much space is in the console? Can you fit a full size, compact, or sub-compact? Space for a second mag as well? If the seats are as tight as folks say, may need to store it there while driving, so I just want to know what to plan for. Thanks everyone!!

Out of curiosity, what is your reason to have a handgun in the car?

Because a rifle is even harder to fit in there.

As Yogi said so eloquently - If you need it and you don't have it then you don't have it when you need it. I had rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Murphy's law says you will never need it until you don't have it.

If you don't carry and don't want to, then you probably shouldn't

I am just curious as to why one would need a handgun in their car. I am not saying not to do so, but what would the need be? I live in LA, and don't know anyone who carries a handgun in their vehicle. Then in California it is illegal to carry any loaded gun in a vehicle.

I'll give only a single example of why you might - Carjacking. I know lots of people that carry. - but then it is legal here in Florida ,

I live in Texas where it is legal to carry in your car. Additionally it is legal to carry concealed or open if you have a license, which is "shall issue" in this state. So if you are carrying on your person, you may need a place to put you gun, if you have to go in somewhere that carry is prohibited, or you want the gun accessible while driving (see carjacking mentioned above), as the seats and seating area can be tight for some people.

The most important reason is, I want to and it is legal.

Neither is apparently true in your case, so it may not be important to you.

It's even legal here in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts. Sig P-365 fits in the console perfectly. The only reason I put it there is that it is harder to get at in my holster when in the seat.

I'm sure you know people who just haven't told you that they carry handguns in their cars. And even more that you don't know; especially in LA. Also, it's not completely illegal in CA. You can have a loaded firearm in your vehicle if you have a CCW (concealed weapons permit/license).

In my C7 I carried my concealed IWB (impossible to be effective while driving) and my other "car gun" in the passenger seat snug between the seat and the center console in a holster rig I setup (up for ride and can load it down for hide)..Left plenty of room to set the seatbelt etc. and with the window tint and black seats you couldn't see it Behind the radio was way to slow in an "emergency situation" IMO. Livin in FL (aka Free America) and having a CCW is a perfect blend.

So it’s that tight in the console....I guess my Desert Eagle will need to get replace with something else from the locker.

From another thread, someone measured. I did too, and got slightly different measurements but close. So this will give you an idea of what will fit. Consider the holster size, if you would store it that way. I will tell you there is little to nothing to stick a magnet to, that is a convenient position. Apparently there is thin sheet metal in the convertible hardtop. So if you were thinking one of those magnet mounts you will have to find a good place to screw it to, or use a strong adhesive and hope it comes off later, if needed.

"I just did a quick measurement. Approximately -length 7.5”, width 5”, depth 2.5”. 2020 HTC"
