Default Radar detector options- C8

The tread on lasers got me thinking about radar detectors , I’ve resisted getting one because I hate the mounting options below the mirror etc to me takes away from the front view ...I’d like to see some options of ways people are mounting without being in your face below the mirror

thanks

Agree, I would not want my detector mounted under the mirror as it detracts from forward vision. Have had the same detector mounted the same way on my 2014 C7, my 2017 Grand Sport and now my C8. To the right of the mirror as high as possible on the windshield. Works fine for me. Note I have added a tether on all 3 cars in case the suction cup lets loose! In the 8 years has done that ONLY when parked facing the sun without window opened about an inch on a hot summer day. Never let loose when driving.

I use this ESCORT "sticky mount" that fits a number of their detectors. Mine is an original Passport Max, It now has 8 years of memorized "speed trap" locations I have saved when I see them! I also have all school zones saved as well and a "nice lady" warns of "Speed Trap" as I approach my marked spot. You can also download updates from their website that includes things like Red Light Camera warnings.

The other advantage is the radar detector can be easily removed from the mount depending on where you park. If as I have done at the 4 Wide NHRA Nationals in Charlotte, can remove the mount quickly so there is no indication you have a detector when parked for a long time. Then less of a chance a brick will be used to enter the car to rummage for whatever you have hidden inside!

Note I do use a Blendmount wire mirror tape kit as I did on my Grand Sport. In fact at first used the wire kit I had on my Grand Sport but it was a bit short so bought their loner 20 inch kit. Don't know if they are listing it is useful for the C8 BUT the one for the C7 fits.

As Mounted in C8

V1 Gen2 in my C7. I would do the same in a C8. It’s up high and doesn’t block your view like the blendmount. The mounts are cheap on Ebay.

I considered mounting mine between the seats above the center speaker (a detector with arrows needs to see out the back) and then putting a radar transparent cover on it; and mounting a remote display somewhere.
But I got lazy and mounted it above the infotainment screen.
True built-in ones get pricier than what I want to spend.

I’ve used a cordless Escort Solo (gen2) for years on many cross country trips. I lay it on a sticky pad on the left corner of the dash and have used it on multiple vehicles. No wires, no mounts, no blind spots, or steal me brackets. Just put it in the glovebox when you leave; set of lithium batteries lasts 2-3 full driving days. Always gives me plenty of warning when using just Ka band, false alerts are blocked. All the $500 boxes might have better long distance sensing and trick apps, but after owning them including a V1 and multiple Passports, I go back to the Solo, and put the others on EBay. The bad news is that they have been discontinued.

I would imagine the corded ones would work the same in that location? ...whats a sticky pad?...velcro?...or maybe the window suction cup in that area?

Does that mounting position still give your rear facing antenna a clear shot thru the back window of your HTC? I'm thinking of mounting mine in the same place but didn't know if it would face directly into the rear speaker/phone charger or driver's seat(don't have a car yet).

I'm really happy with the way mine came out. Very unobtrusive and hidden but still gets both front and rear signals.

Used these parts:

Mount

Wire:

I also put another sticky pad on the top of the detector to cover it up from casual outside observation, put my sunglasses on it, and insulate from sun’s rays.

The rear view for the detector isn't perfect. However, it is good enough for the arrows to work properly. Most of the threats are from the front. I didn't have a way to do comparison testing.
I drove around for a while with the detector on the passenger floor and it was still alerting pretty good since radar can penetrate a lot of things that visible light can't.

Looks like you have the Blackvue Dashcam as I do also in the same position. I also have Valentine One Gen2 and wonder do you have it hard wired and if so how? I do switch my Radar from car to car if I am traveling in my SUV and wonder if your setup allows you manually remove or disconnect?

Yes I have mine powered from fuse 37 in the rear. Did it several years ago as it was the easiest way for me to do it at the time. The BlackVue is powered with their OBD connector.

While radar jammers are illegal in all 50 states due to federal law, laser jammers/scramblers are regulated by states. Currently, these devices are legal in all states except California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

I’m not Saleen556 but I’ll jump in and give my 2 cents. You can purchase a cord off ebay that has the Valentine 1 RJ11 connector on one end and two solid leads (hot and ground) on the other end. It costs about $19 (or Best Offer)*. Next, in front of the rearview mirror (towards the front of the vehicle) is a plastic cover that houses an electrical connection block. Pry the cover off with a trim tool. Insert the red lead from the $19 Ebay cord alongside the red wire in the connection block. Insert the black lead alongside the black wire in the connection block. Reattach the cover allowing the wire to exit on the same side (left or right) that you’ve mounted your V1. I did this and it works great. Powers on the V1 when I start the vehicle, powers off the V1 when I shut down the vehicle.

* Serach for “RJ11 Radar” on eBay and the $19 cord should come up.

Yes I also have a mirror tap in my truck. The V1 Gen2 goes back and forth. The hardwire kit that comes with the detector is the one in my car.

Is the electrical connection block only on the 2LT/3LTs?
