I feel like a Mormon - spreading Corvette scripture
So I’ve been a Corvette fan since I was a kid. No secret there. Most who know me, know that. I don’t push the Corvette brand but I always enjoy talking about them when asked.
5 years ago I convinced a neighbor friend preparing to buy a Porsche 718 to test drive a C7 Grand Sport before he pulled the trigger…and he still owns the Grand Sport Convertible.
When I took delivery of my Red Mist C8 HTC last Fall he and I took a short road trip each our Corvettes to visit a mutual friend up North. He is a Porsche guy but REALLY loved the C8…but he hated the lengthy wait list. Last week, he sold his 2017 911 4S and ordered a 2022 911 4S…not to shabby (and apparently ok with a Porsche wait list). Over the course of the last week, he kept asking me about the C8 and playing with the configurator…until today when he put a deposit down and ordered a loaded Black Z51 HTC with Red interior.
Not my C8, but I can’t help but feel proud. So yeah, I’m kinda feelin’ like a Mormon spreading the Corvette scripture. And the flock just got a little bigger.

“ Excuse me sir do you have a moment to speak about our lord and savior Zora Arkus Duntov ?
Our father who art in Chevy, mid engine be thine name. “
Better to listen to than actual Mormons I suppose.

Interesting big. I have a new car friend….a Porsche dude who’s gone through a lot of cars and owns a number of Japanese dealerships. He really has me convinced to look at a p car. He’s had both corvettes and p cars and says the Porsche is much better and I sort of understand his point.
He’s touting Porsche and says but I got to get me a c8 soon?
He also warned me Porsche dealer are snobby and would look down on me in my crappy clothes.
Ive never driven a Porsche but honestly they all look the same to me. Talk about alphabet soup.
Yesterday I asked him I’m going to drive cross country this year, what would be the better ride? He said Porsche! I’m not sure on that!
I just wish gm would give me some compensation for the number of folks I’ve let drive my cars over the years and the sales I’ve made for them. One dealer did send me a nice set of corvette luggage one Xmas so I got something…JUST NOT A DEMO CAR YET..

I know Porsche builds quality cars and they have a great following, but I can't get past the looks of them.
I love the looks of most Ferrari's and most Lambo's do nothing for me. Porsche to me is ugly and I can't get the bloated VW bug vision out of my head.
To each their own and I say buy what makes you happy. My C8 makes me happy, and I don't tell anyone that they need to buy a C8 over anything else. I think Chevy has done an outstanding job with this car and have designed a true supercar at affordable pricing.

I promote the Corvette brand as much as possible, but I realize they are not for everyone. Advice I give is try one on for size and compare it to others that may be of interest. Let the best car prevail.

I also find this Zora image creepy. It looks like a propaganda poster from an authoritarian regime. Ferdinand's is only marginally less creepy.
Zora.
Ferdinand.

Frankly the red inside with black outside looks better than any match up with red interior I've seen. Red is a lot of color and not for the faint of heart or sensitive eyes. But your picture of the black and red combo is outstanding. Maybe................. naaa

I’m back and forth between a 718 and a C8. Both base cars are at the very top of my budget but you get so much more with the C8. Def leaning vette.

Personally I find the Zora/Tadge deifications off-putting. I half expect aftermarket suppliers to create Zora and Tadge figurines (in carbon fiber, naturally) to mount on C8 dashboards. They would stand on pedestals engraved with appropriate homages.

Might also be able to convince Tadge to do a 3D scan and I could also make a figurine model for him. Carbon fiber filament of course. Above Zora on this forum we have MT’s, Chrome, and Carbon fiber as the father son and Holy Ghost. Assuming Zora as the prophet wears new balance Jorts and a polo.
I’ll see myself out.

Porsche dealer experience is way better than Chevy. Porsche will let anybody test drive basically any car on the lot. Couple years ago I went to my local Chevy dealer asking about a used c7 Z06 on the lot and was basically told to go f*** myself.
With the C8s it's probably even worse, would get laughed out of the showroom if you asked for a test drive. So it's not actually possible to really get to experience a Corvette from a dealer before getting on a list or buying unless you seek out a current owner or rent one. I can see why someone wouldn't want to deal with that.

The Chevy dealer experience is one of the worst I’ve ever experienced and almost reason enough to not want a Corvette… almost. Porsche design should look refined with all the iterations it’s gone through and the quality of materials used. It’s timeless but understandably boring for many people including myself. The C8 design isn’t particularly the most refined or integrated, but much like the performance, it gives you a lot of wow factor for the buck. There’s no mistaking it for a true exotic, but I don’t think that’s what Corvettes are about. It’s a performance bargain for the ages with some in your face styling but plenty of cost cutting to make it a compelling and affordable package. A year with the Stingray was enough for me but I’m looking forward to my Z06.

This. I have my old Corvette specialist books at home from when I was selling them. GM has always known this, in the 94 or 95 specialist book it says "buyers feel like they are going to Kmart to shop for diamonds".

I agree that no Chevrolet dealer will likely let you test pilot a C8. That's because for the most part there are few C8s on Chevrolet dealer lots that aren't already sold before they arrive. Even before 1000 of them burned at sea, unsold Porsches are skinny on dealer lots and thus unavailable for test pilots.
I guess my point is that Chevrolet dealers can be as bad as described, but many are not - and Porsche dealers can be worse than as described, and in my experience, they all are. I prefer my indy for my VAG products.

Porsche dealerships are more likely to give the "Pretty Woman" treatment while they surgically and skillfully extract money from your bank account. That has been my experience. I'm not convinced the service is actually "better" in that in my experience Porsche/Audi dealers are no less likely to misdiagnose problems, resulting in needless bills, and report "cannot reproduce problem" while charging mightily for that diagnosis. But you are treated like you're important while they do so.

Sadly, I agree with all of the above regarding Chevy dealers. As a Corvette fanboy, I felt like they were a necessary evil and I wasn't going to let them get in the way of my dream car. I'm grateful to have found a local dealer that has serviced all of my Corvettes for 15+ years. They handle my Corvettes with kids gloves because I'm an **** M'fer, lol. I have personally known my service advisor and Corvette tech for years, but I went through several dealers before I found them. Sadly, on the "sales" side I've never bought from them. They get very few cars and always mark up. When my 911 friend was asking, I actually told him that I didn't think the C8 was for him due to dealer service. Luckily he lives pretty close to Stasek in the northern burbs, so my hope is they will take care of him.
He spent DAYS calling around to dealers with Corvettes in stock to see if they'd take MSRP. We all know how that went, and a few of them literally laughed at him. I tried to warn him. I sent him to the out of state dealer I have my Z06 on order with and to my surprise, they are getting him an allocation next month...with delivery by April / May. Stunned. Looking forward to having another friend with a Corvette...and proud of GM producing a product getting tire kickers from other benchmark brands.

Test drove a couple used manual 718s before ordering my C8, fantastic quality, handling, steering, shifting of course but could not get myself to spend new C8 money on a used 4 cylinder sports car (reminded me of a WRX I used to own). Maybe the newer 6 cyl GTSs, but try to find one of those for less than $120k.

I am quite the Corvette enthusiast. Really like the brand, I wish everyone could experience it, it's amazing to me everyone does not feel the same way. There is so much gatekeeping in this community.

I won't comment on your Morman statement and I've owned a couple of Porsches before the C5... Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house..
