Sorry to ruin your buzz, Rob, but count me out of "everyone." I like the shape of the base wheels. The silver is uninspiring and the black/polished lip is good but could be better. I'm experimenting with powdercoating them. I could pull out a credit card and order the same wheels as everyone else off a website, that's easy and maybe I'll do that down the road. For now I'm going to have some fun first. I bought a set of take-offs locally for cheap (easy to find because, as you point out "everyone knows they are awful" ) and just picked them up from the powder coater. We found a black-ghost like gloss powder coat color that we think might work. They haven't been cleaned up yet or had ceramic applied, I just brought them home last night and snapped this quick and dirty pic. Feel free to hate on them, as we know nothing will stop you anyway.

While I don't have it, I've seen a few sets chromed. The base C8 wheels are among the worst ever designed. You're better off getting an aftermarket set, or ordering the tridents from GM.

I have a friend who swapped his trident wheels for chromed trident from WCC. They looked good.

Just curious, worst as in appearance, or from a quality standpoint?

Appearance. This is a $70-100,000 car and the wheels look like something from a Toyota Camry. Poor design, but smart move by GM as it makes most people upgrade to one of the extra $ wheel options.

GM is VERY smart - they even got C8 buyers people to spend $3000 extra for black wheels you can't even see, just as they got people to spend $4800 more for 3LT for extra fuzz on the interior, and $1250 for a high-wing spoiler to provide all that downforce you need to get to Cars and Coffee on time for a good parking spot.

In the factory finish wheels look cheap. Chromed they look awesome!

Never made sense why spend $3000 on factory cast wheels when $3000 buys a nice set of forged wheels on the aftermarket. Even with the $1500 trident wheels I don't see much value there either, still in the range of flow/hybrid/whatever marketing term "forged". The base wheels only sell for about $500 as a set secondhand so there's not a whole lot of cost recouping. I guess I prefer the more unique options in the aftermarket.

Picked these up this morning at Wheel Craft, not chrome but better. These should look great on my red mist metallic HTC.

PVD is pretty cool stuff. Nice to have a vendor near you that can do it.

Well, were I going with chrome, these would be my choice.
