Default Onstar games

I have heard a lot of negative about Onstar on this forum. I never use these services on my other cars either. When I picked up my new C8 the dealer had added one year of Onstar for $169. As that was the only addon, I was happy and said nothing. But now after one month I get an email from Chevrolet stating "You have cancelled the Theft Alarm Notification email service in your 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible . You will no longer receive an email notification each time your vehicle alarm is triggered." What is this crap?

Doesn't the 2023 include a 3 year subscription to (I think) remote access? Do you know what "plan" your dealer added for 169 dollars? In any case you can call the OnStar advisor and ask what is going on. Below is what I found about "Theft Alarm Notification" by searching on the OnStar site. I dont think its part of the 300 subscription for remote access. Looks like its part of the Safety & Security Plan and the Essentials and Premium bundles.

I looked up the invoice and it says "Onstar remote access 12 month" So I guess there are various Onstar products and I only got one of them for my $169.

I wouldn't call it "games" or "crap." You accepted the plan that the dealer sold you and the theft alarm notification service was not included. Always read the fine print....

That is interesting. Someone else may have to chime in. But I did check on the Chevy website for 2023 - 3 years of remote access is standard and I have read on the forum that there is a 300 charge for this "included" item. I'm not sure why it would show as a dealer add on. (and I wrongly called it connected access in post 2, but I fixed that).

But why would "Theft Alarm Notification" be "cancelled" if he never had it? I think that's reason for the question. And what was he charged for since remote access is supposed to be standard on 2023 models? (noting that remote access does not include Theft Alarm Notification service in the first place.)

I think the 3-year $300 mandatory service was instituted in late summer, so early MY2023's would not have the 3-year service. OP has a 2023 HTC, but it may have been early in the MY.

Ok. So the dealer added maybe 1 year of remote access for 169. And maybe the the Theft Alarm Notification was part of the 1 month free subscription? Do they still get that? I have to say that with my 2021, purchase new, I do recall getting some notification about not having a subscription. But I do not recall every getting anything about cancelling a service, not Theft Alarm Notification.

Sorry, I don't have my C8Z yet so have not had to muck around with new Onstar service. What I wrote above was based on what has been posted here. for the Stingray.

Looks like I got the Onstar remote access Plan. $180 MSRP for $169. I did not get the one that costs $300 people say GM makes you get. I got my car 1 month ago.

I'm half-way to deciding never to purchase another GM vehicle. OnStar is one reason. I Do Not need to be told my vehicle's condition, and I do not want to be watched. I've talked to a couple 'builders'. I think I can get a very good quality 'pre-internet, re-built', fuel injection, 400+hp, anti-lock brakes, for allot less than a new 'monitored' rolling computer. FWITW, I'm talking about a 4WD truck.
Definitely never buying another corvette.

2023 here, got my car two weeks ago but it was a price protected order, pre-June increase, from MM. No $300 onstar charge but also only 1 month free services on my 1LT.

I just checked with OnStar and she said the 3 year 'included' plan does not have Remote Access but the chart shows it does.

What I put in post 5 was taken from the Chevrolet web site. And in fact, I think that what you get with "included" three year plan is only the remote access. The fine print (in post 5) excludes the security stuff.

OnStar told me we only get 'Vehicle Diagnostics', 'Dealer Maintenance Notification', and ' Chevrolet Smart Driver' (no Remote Access). I just downloaded the My Chevrolet App and that's all it says I have with my '21 C8. Those are exactly what's listed under the heading Connected Access on the chart which conflicts with the listed features going across the row.

Right. But we were discussing what is on the 2023. When the 2023s first came out, they include the same (I think month trial) of something (I never used it) and then the other stuff you listed goes on for a long time (more than three years) at no charge. But the 2023 now includes a mandatory 3 year subscription for Remote Access as noted in post 5. But it appears that the OP got one of the earlier 2023s that did not include the there year subscription. I think it explains what he experienced - his dealer added a 1 year subscription to remote access (he later said). I think the cancellation message he got was when his one month trial activated. I never got a cancellation notice - for my 2021 - but I never activated nor used my trial subscription.

And here is a copy of my "Customer Acknowledgement Form" for my 2021 showing what was included wrt OnStar at that time.

Looks like it was a three month trial that included Connected Services, Safety and Security, 1 month of 3GB data, and 10 years of "standard connectivity" with Connected Access and some features of the myChevrolet Mobile App. Again, sometime after the start of the 2023 Model Year, they added the three years of Remote Access. I do not know if that replaced, deleted, or changed the 3 month trial - all I know about that is what I posted in post 5 I think it was.

I think you nailed it, "crap". Nothing else to really think about. Eat the $169 and cancel.
