So I brought my MM purchase to local dealer for..
Back story. Went local dealer to buy and after 2 visits dealer did not have a stingray close enough to what it wanted, and those cars coming in not meeting it either. Told to forget about Z06.
MM had a stingray close enough and bought it. Dropping off check and Accelerate Yellow pre owned Z06 on the floor. Took that home a week later.
Went to local dealer (wont mention name but in East Providence, RI). Wanted brake air scoops installed. NO. WE DO NOT SERVICE CARS WE HAVE NOT SOLD. WTF! Is this common? Or even allowed by GM?

What a dumb mentality of some of these dealerships. I can bring my Honda anywhere to get fixed or serviced. It's only idiot chevy dealerships who have this mindset.

It seems to be somewhat common on the East Coast. I've never had a dealer around me refuse service on a vehicle that was not purchased from them. Talking to the Service Manager, most are happy to have the revenue.

It's such a short sighted policy.
I imagine in their minds, it forces a person to buy from them next time if they want it serviced there.
Yet they totally ignore that likely alienates the customer and maybe if they provide great service and take care of the vehicle, it might generate that person going to the sales department.....
Or how about what if they just moved there, again that destroys a potential relationship.
I would have loved to buy my Z06 from the dealer that will be servicing it. But their list has long been closed and to my knowledge hasn't come close to getting to everyone that jumped on it..... If they try the won't service it because I didn't buy it there policy, it would be the last time I go to them for any other vehicle purchase. But I know they will based on history.

Allowed? Yes. Common? No, but there d-bag dealerships that practice this BS. Most welcome the revenue stream. Up to 40% of a dealership’s overall income can originate from the service department.

The franchise agreement they signed with General Motors does not allow this kind of conduct…
I would certainly recommend you call General Motors (Chevrolet) customer service and report this incident…

GM dealer agreement, or for any dealer agreement in the industry, can only stipulate that you’ll do warranty work. Any customer pay work is the discretion of the individual dealer.

I don’t get it money is money. Gouge the customer if you must and they agree but don’t turn down business.

The dealership a couple miles from me loves to service my "19Z that I bought elsewhere across town. In fact they're so good, that I've brought my GMC their too. And I'd also bring my Caddie, but Cadillac won't allow warranty work at a Chevy Dealer, or so they tell me.

Sounds like sour grapes as MacMulkin dwarfs them in sales.
They know they are the jv team so they dump on you the customer
Id find somewhere else for all my work.

I agree. Nothing stops a dealership from being stupid when it comes to how they treat customers that did not purchase a car from them. In most instances, it ruins the chance that the customer will return for either service or a future purchase.

Short sighted and stupid. Why not use it as an opportunity to gain your business? MM won’t disappoint imo

I had a similar experience in Phoenix in 1987. The closest Ford dealer could not get a Mustang GT convertible that met my needs and the dealer across town had one on the lot. The close dealer refused service and Ford corporate said that is their right. I have bought over 25 new vehicles since then and none of them from Ford. I have never heard this nonsense from a GM dealer before. Good luck.

I guess that's one of the many dealers that's super jealous of MM's top sales.
Honestly to this day i still don't know where i'm going to take my car for the free but mandatory 7500 mile service. I have 3100 now so i have time, most likely by next spring. I'm about 300 miles from MM and i am actually debating on just going there lol. I know it sounds extreme but i trust them. And plus they're open 7 days a week and i think the service dept too.

When I ordered my 2022 HTC, my local small dealer had no allocations. Consequently, they were more than understanding when I went to MM to order my car. Since then, they have been happy to service my C8, my wife's Equinox, and even a Land Rover we used to own. Over the years, various members of my family have purchased multiple cars there. In fact, my sister purchased a car at that dealer just last weekend. I think they would have been stupid to try to withhold service because they did not sell me the particular car I was bringing in for service. Look at all they would have lost?

I had this happen once. They told me they didn't have enough staff to handle Corvette's not purchased from them. They did say if I really needed them to work on it they would try to get an exception from management. I told them no thanks, I didn't need their charity and I'll take my business elsewhere, which is what I did.
