WARNING: To any C8 owner who thinks that they have 36 months to get that FREE first service done on your transmission, think again. I am fighting tooth and nail with GM to get my first service done under the warranty plan and I have a 2022 with only 5,600 miles. Yeah, I know that you often read that you are allowed 36 months. But apparently GM has changed the time to 24 months in a sneaky move if you ask me. I'm sure that there are thousands if not tens of thousands of Corvettes just like mine that after 24 months still have not hit the required 7,500 miles service date. Mine expired on May 27th, 2024 and I went in to my local GM Dealer to discuss scheduling a date at the end of summer to get it done. Since then I have called GM Customer Care half a dozen times and argued until I turned blue. As I write this I'm still under a month over the 24 month limit and they refuse to pay for a filter change. Which is crazy considering if the trans blew up tomorrow they would have to pay for a new transmission. And If that's not bad enough, now it's at the dealer because the check engine light came on twice and spit out Transmission codes: P0700 and P0868. I don't know what's going on as it's at the Dealer as I type this. I was supposed to find out something today, but the dealer called and said they can't get it on the lift because it's too low! I didn't lower the car. I did install a full side skirt kit with rear diffuser. They claim that they have to get some special ramps to get it up on the lift. LMAO and according to GM, this Dealer is "Corvette Certified" or something like that. 2022 with 5,600 miles
It was never 36 months for your car. Early on for the 2020 it was only 12 months and they changed it to 24 months and made it retro to 2020 and the 2021, 2022 and 2023. For 2024 they made it 36 months but not retroactive to earlier years.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. LMAO I not only have the factory warranty but I have the "Chevy Certified" extended warranty on the power train. So if my transmission blows up in the next few years they are paying for a new transmission. But they don't want to pay for a filter change because i showed up at the Dealership 1 week after the 24 months expired. I call bullshit on that.

You mean there is actually a benefit of getting a 24 vs 23 model? Amazing 🤣
When you bought your car new you should have gotten a paper outlining the free service, what it covered and the time limit plus what your warranty period was. Did you read it?
I know you are frustrated but it is what it is. That said I have heard some dealers still comping the service after it’s expiration but I bet they did it for customers that were, well, not being difficult…
I hate to disagree with you, but you are complaining about not being covered when you are outside the period for the free service. 1 day or 1 month, doesn't really matter. It's your fault that you didn't know what the time span was. Sorry, I agree with GM on this one. If they make an exception for you, how far do they take it?
Since you’ve not yet hit the 7,500 mile requirement, it would still need to be done at 7,500 miles anyway. The only thing you could’ve technically gotten would’ve been the complimentary oil change. Drive and enjoy that thing!

Easy to check the terms of the benefit if one visits the Chevy owner site. It shows the duration of all warranties [this free service is considered a warranty] so there is no mystery as to the terms, as long as one looks it up. Not much different than the common advice to "read the owners manual" when someone has a question that is answered in that useful publication

At 1 year and 2500 miles I used my free service and go both the engine oil/filter and the DCT external canister filter changed on my 2021. I did that because I knew that at year 2 I would only have 5000 miles, and even if I changed the DCT filter then, it still would need to be changed again at 7,500. He could have gotten both too. The recent announcement about the extension for 2024 to 36 months, which also allows separation of the two services, does include a statement that the claim for the DCT filter change "may" be rejected if it is not within the required 7000-8000 mile window. But no such restriction existed for the 24 month free service. Forum reports show a few dealers have tried to say otherwise, but they are wrong and most do not. My dealer, Criswell Gaithersburg, was happy to do it. Of course, you are correct that it still needs to be changed again between 7000-8000 miles. So it would not have save him any $.

Agreed......you need to put more smiles and miles on that thing
Yeah - I don't consider mine a garage queen. In my previous life, I drove my C5 rag top to work almost every day, about 100 miles round trip (perhaps 20000 miles/year). I would do the same with the C8 if I had that trip to make. But I don't. I have several classic cars and I cant drive all of them at the same time. And I have other stuff to do as well. I don't (honestly) know how I managed everything before I retired - several years ago.
It does look like GM overestimated the miles that most drive their C8 - they have extended the free service interval twice now, from 12 to 24, then 24 to 36. And they finally figured out that the oil change and the DCT filter change are typically not coincident - which would only have happened if one actually drove some 7500 mile give or take in less than a year.
When I went in for my first free oil change, the dealer told me I would be better off paying for this one and using my freebee when I come in to do the DTC free service. HOWEVER, they were very specific about when I could do that. It had to have at least 7250 miles on it. It could not have more than 7500 miles on it. And it had to be before the 2 year mark. I nailed it at 1.5 years.
OP posted the same thing on FB. You should see all the ridiculously inaccurate responses he got. Seems that no one reads the manual. RTFM people....lol

Uh...This information isn't in the owner's manual...

What model year do you have? and did you claim both services at the same time? I have a 2024 and also go to Criswell Gaithersburg but the service advisor didn't know that the two services could be claimed separately. Had to show her the post from Ken Fichtner on here.
