Default Is everyone ok with the C8 Z06's top speed of 186 MPH?

I think the C8 Z06 Looks great! I have a C7 Z06 and one of the knocks on the car is that it can not hit 200 MPH like the C6 and C7 ZR1 Corvettes. The bench mark by some is a Supercar must hit 200 MPH. GM has the C8 Z06 top speed listed at 186 MPH same as the C7 Z06. I know At least 90% of us will never hit top speed on our Corvettes I being one. Do you guys feel that the C8 needed to hit the 200 MPH claim to fame like the C6 and C7 ZR1 Corvettes to bring it to the ultimate performer?

GREAT LOOKING CORVETTE!!

Are you sure that is the actual published top speed. The interviews I watched said they have not published it yet. What they did say was: "Z06 produces 734 pounds of downforce at 186 mph"

Which does not mean 186mph is the top speed.

99.99% will never hit the top speed. It's just a sales figure. I don't care what the top speed is as long as the useable performance is as good as we all hope it is.

186 is the metric standard. 186 mph = 300 kph.

If you want to go faster, just take the wing off.

Yes. I don't know of any road courses that I'll get close to 186mph. Kind of glad. That's a lot of kinetic energy to dissipate if something goes wrong...

Yes from Tadge Juechter mouth

186 mph
The resulting improved air flow helped the absurdly powerful engine meet emissions standards. Top speed is 186 mph. The 0-60 mph time fell to 2.6 seconds, about 0.2-0.3 of a second faster than the Stingray. That was unexpected, Juechter said.2 days ago

Likely limited by the tires. I for 1 don't care.

but that number may be closer to 99.9999% will never hit top speed. I have owned (6) Corvettes modified and raced them all to some degree or another and I have never hit a top speed in gear before.

I drive on track quite a bit and have never come close to the top speed of any car even at COTA. My C8 only got up to about 146 from what I recall.

I'll be getting mine out to a runway of some type, and going for the 200 MPH mark, it will likely take more then a mile to get there...

186 mph is 5 mph more than my current top speed so it is acceptable. The only reason for 200 moh top speed is bragging rights.... and we all like that

I'm sure the C8 ZR1 will address that issue!

My guess is since they are exporting the Z06, they may be limiting the speed like Europe to 186mph. My Mercedes AMG S63 is also limited to 186mph. If you take the speed limiting device off, it will go faster. I bet the Z06 will go faster than 186 but maybe not.

Oh and 186mph on the Autobahn is a rush! I picked up my AMG at the factory in Germany and proceeded to get a speeding ticket on the Autobahn but atleast I know it goes 186mph.

It could be that Tadge is holding back on giving out the exact number. Remember all the unofficial leaked data on the engine horsepower, it was going to be above 600 only, and now we have 670, which is more than what the C7 has/had. So I think the official number will be at least a little higher than what the C7 is limited to today. The car itself can go past 200 without any changes to the aero, even with the low geared final drive, top gear will be able to go past 200 because of the 8400rpm top HP number, may even make it in 7th.

Let us see what they do at Jonny Bohmer Proving Grounds, when one of these gets there.

As for how much it matter in a purchase decision, just bragging rights.

Best regards,
Vip.

Might be limited because of tires as well.

I'm 100% OK with it. The Z06 is a track weapon designed for maximum grip at turns, hence the massive downforce.
I'd be surprise if the C8R can hit 186.

OP, this car is already the ultimate Corvette performer, it has 670hp from a 5.5L NA V8.
It doesn't need displacement or a supercharger to make big power. Compare and contrast to a LS7 and LT4, both engines make less power. Now someones going to bring up torque, well, which of the 3 cars mentioned can do 0-60 in 2.6/2.7 seconds?

GM just needs to campaign the C8Z at several American road courses like Dodge did with the Viper ACR to shut up all the haters.

Johnny Bohmer went 191 in a 2019 ZR1 in the mile, so it will likely take a good bit more than a mile to hit 200 in the C8 Z.
