Warranty Voided
So sorry this is my first post, but I figured it would be a good place to share my recent experience with trying to have a repair done under warranty at a local Chevy dealer here in Michigan. Long story short, I believe GM is screwing me.
So I found and bought my dream c8 z06 from a dealer down in Atlanta a couple weeks ago. It wasn't a chevy dealer, but they seemed pretty reputable for buying and selling high end cars. They had, for sale, a used 2023 z06 with 3200 miles on it and it was wrapped in this awesome custom gray color. So, after doing a fair amount of diligence, I slapped down near 150k for this thing and was all smiles. As part of my diligence, I verified that the corvette was still under factory warranty. I knew that they were voiding some due to the original owner selling it before the 6 month retention period was up so I made sure the vehicle history showed that it was owned for longer than 6 months (closer to 8 actually) before it was originally sold and I called around to a couple dealers to make sure the factory warranty was still valid. Every indication said this vehicle was under warranty and all the paperwork from the multiple dealers said it was under warranty. To this day, if you run the VIN on the car it says that its under factory warranty. I even called GM and they say its under warranty.
Fast forward to today and I've had the car for almost a couple weeks now and decide I should have it checked out. The engine has started making a noticeable tick and I felt I should get it some fresh oil so I brought it to what seemed to be one of the most reputable chevy dealerships here in Michigan specializing in Corvettes. They also had the concern that its possible its not under warranty so they reached out to their GM rep and, low and behold, "they are in the process" of voiding the warranty. This dealership wouldn't even attempt to make a warranty claim and said any warranty claim on the vehicle would be denied. Their reasoning is that the retention period is actually 1 year and not 6 months and its just taking a long time to get the system updated. So here I am, with what feels like my life savings in my dream car that now has an engine tick, 4 codes for various things and no warranty. I really am devastated at this point that I could have gotten myself in this position. I can't believe there's this time window where GM could take months to void a warranty and there's no way of customers knowing about it.
Anyways, its kind of a rant and I'm really just praying there is someone on this forum can give me some peace of mind or advice.

Last Update: It looks like the first dealer I took it to didn't really know what they were talking about. Chevrolet even called me and said there's no reason this car shouldn't be covered under warranty. Saline Chevrolet in Michigan was nothing short of fantastic to work with and had no problems doing the warranty work. Also got the oil level all situated out. Finally can relax and enjoy this absolute beast of a car.
Thanks to everyone here for the input too!

Lawyer right away, document it and contact the place you bought it from and see what kind of paperwork they can provide to show when they took ownership. 6 months is the retention and its not up to you to be beholden to their slow system not updating.

Les Stanford played some games with me, too. Back in the day, I had them do an alignment for me after I asked if they had the special tool to do caster adjustments. They assured me they did. Long story short, they didnt have the tool but acted like the specs I asked for were all taken care of. Sketchy.

GM strikes again.
I still own my ‘23 as the original purchaser and it wouldn’t surprise me if they want to void the warranty on it too. I think they may be in the process of reneging on the 500,000 points to the remaining’23 buyers who are still waiting.
Nothing surprises me at this point with the GM “we got your money” corporation.

Perhaps the geniuses at GM have a difficult time counting the number of months between July and February. Maybe they should try counting on their fingers. I would take the car to another Chevy dealer. Start with the service manager, not a service writer. You may want to spend $45 and pull a carfax. I hate it when corporate America ***** on the consumer. Good luck.

It doesn't sound like anything is wrong with it. Just a slight tick?

And 4 codes involving the fuel rail pressure, brake system control module and exhaust flow control valve. May just be voltage issues, but considering les stanford wants around $150 per code to diagnose, it would be nice if it was under warranty.

I don't understand how they can legally void a warranty just because the original purchaser didn't own the car long enough to meet some wacky GM standard. I've never heard of that and assume it's extremely unprecedented. What if the original purchaser had health problems and couldn't make the payment? The guy could have died. Sounds like they're just doing everything they can to get out of paying for repair on a product that maybe they know has some serious issues.

OP, sorry you are dealing with this but you knew this was a potential issue (hence checking with multiple dealers if the warranty was intact). Buying from a non-Chevy dealer was risky, and I suspect this was ann added component. Perhaps GM is treating the non-GM dealer as a reseller that sold it in less than 6 months? Just a theory.
GM and the owners manual are very clear the warranty “void” period is 6 months, not 12 months, but clearly they think otherwise. Before lawyering up, have you considered contacting GM customer service?
