Default Importing from the US - Warranty?

Hi,

It's only been 3 months since I've been Vette-less but I'm starting to crave yet another one. Mostly in part to a friend who gave me a ride in his C6 Z06. Thanks to that bastard and our strong dollar, I now find myself looking for a C6 Z06 to import back to Canada.

I'm looking at 06 and 07 Z06's but I'm leaning towards the 07's because of their 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty.

However, my question is this. Is the warranty valid in Canada? I'm thinking it is but just wanted to make sure.

This is interesting.
Just to confirm, 2007 GM's have a different warranty than 2006's?
If so, can you fill me in on the details?

The 2006 had a 3 year, 36000 mile drivetrain warranty. The 2007 has a 5 year 100000 mile drivetrain warranty.

Not sure if it's the same with the base C6.

Thanks for the info guys, I hope to be back in a Vette sometime in the late spring.

Not so fast, GM dealers will not provide warranty coverage for 6 months and 12,000 kms. So if you need warranty you will have to flat bed the car to Buffalo. I know Toyota decision, good luck with that.

Not true. He's looking at a 2006 (out of warranty) or a 2007 (power train only). What you are referring to is the bumper to bumper warranty when the car is new.

If the vehicle has 12000 kms AND has been in service for 6 months from when originally purchased from GM you are good to go. Under that and you still have warranty but only in the US.

I would assume it would be the same for all Corvettes, anyone know for sure?

Ok. So someone tell me this. My '07 Z06 I brought up a few months ago only has 6000km on it. Can I get warranty work done here? Or do I need to have 12000km on it before something breaks?

Unless you have some pull, you need 12,000 KMS on it.

you are already past your 36 month bumper to bumper,,,,if you have a castrophic driveline failure now that would be rare,,,,

but it brings up an interesting point,,,,does the GMPP have the same guide lines as the bumper to bumper????

To correct that, you have to PUT 12,000kms on it. Mine has warranty until Jan 2014, but it has to be here for 6 months AND travel 12,000kms AFTER being imported for GM to honour it. That's AND, not OR. And that's for the GMPP, but they advised me they are all the same, to protect GM from you importing a problem child...

Hey, THANKS GM
You continue to woo me back to deal with you

Um, I said that. He asked specifically about the mileage, he already new about the time frame and the "AND" part.
I have brought up ten, I am familiar.

OH, oh, oh wait a minute.......wait a minute...NO NO NO (just read your post again) 12,000 KMs TOTAL!!!! Not put on AFTER you have come up, someone is feeding you a line of . Again, I know, I have had warranty work done on about 7 of my vehicles, all of them had less than 12,000 KMs put on up here, but over 12,000 total. I always take my vehicles in right away for some sort of warranty to get them in the cdn system, in case GM decides to do some funny business.

It is 12,000 kms total as indicated on the odometer. How would GM know how many klicks were on it when it came across the border.....? If it has never been in for service since new (like mine) they don't even know where the car is let alone how many klicks are on it. It is 12,000 on the odometer and 6 months since the in service date when sold as new by the original dealer. If some Canadian dealer told you that he is selling you a load of crap.

That's interesting... That was from the GM guys in Oshawa that do the recall letter (GM Heritage or something?). They had the mileage recorded on the letter. I like your answer better!

I'm going to call the dealer here and see what he says about it. They were going to do the leaky gas tank service bulletin, so they know the car. It's an 04 Z06 with 39000km on it, so if YOU are right (and I HOPE you are) then I'm good to go for warranty in the summer! Ohhhhhhhhh......... somebodies gonna get a good flogging at Mosport this spring

I just CAN'T believe GM would say something untruthful
