I bought a 2004 White Coupe on Christmas Eve, it only had 5500 miles. The car is almost in showroom condition, except it is covered in small specs of what looks like road tar. I used a clay bar today by Mothers to clean the hood, it done a great job, but it took alot of rubbing. Is there an easier product to do the job? Thanks for any info!

I use WD-40 .. simply spray it directly onto the surface and let it soak a little... wipe it away... You may have to rub a little if it's real bad... Wash, then wax. Claybar works well but I like WD-40... Actually I use both...

Had that problem just this morning. Sat down with a cup of warm water mixed with Maguiars car wash, my toothbrush, and a fingernail.
Looks like new again.
p.s. The wife made me get a new toothbrush

I usually use Turtle wax bug and tar remover. I can usually get the small stuff by using Nanowax as a solvent. I always wax after tar stripping. I do the clay bar twice a year for exercise. Most of the tar comes off easily because of the Nanowax basecoat. I got a free Nanowax kit at work that had the soap, wax, and wax as you dry products. I really like how it bonds to the surface and keeps stuff like tar from sticking. I don't know if it is the best stuff in the world, but it is pretty easy to use.

Thanks Guys, I will have a new camera by the weekend and will post some pictures. I didn't tell you all the story, I totaled my wives Trans Am a couple of weeks before Christmas, so I had to get out of the Dog House. It worked!
We dated in a Black Conv. 1960 model. We had a 1978 model. It has been a while since we've had a Corvette in the garage. She decided on the C5 over the C6. It was the best Christmas of all!
I'll try the WD40.

The best product I have ever used removing tar and bug guts is Surf City Garage's Road Grime spray. The worst, most K-Mart packaging I have ever seen, but the product is really amazing.

A cup of kerosene in a bucket of water, a soft terry cotton towel, wring and wipe--been doing it for 40 years. Won't hurt the finish, leaves car clean. Then wash and wax. Keep kerosene off windows and rubber parts.
