Default Gen VI block & Mark IV head compatibility

Will a new Gen VI 454 block & factory hyd roller cam work with Edelbrock Performer Mark IV style heads and aftermarket roller rockers? If so, what head gaskets to use?
(answering a question from a co-worker)

Thanks in advance.

OK, maybe I should rephrase the question: Will a new style Chevy BB short block work with old style BB heads?

I'm not a BBC guy, but when the Gen VI stuff came-out, I recall that CHEVY HIGH-PERFORMANCE did several build-ups, using Mark IV heads on Gen VI blocks (I think odd-ball/adaptor-type head gaskets were used?), but I'm going strictly from memory here...

Default mark 6

My car is living proof that the Mark VI block can be used with any Mark IV heads. I have 1969 Oval ports sitting atop a 1998 454 block, destroked with a Mark V 366 truck crank to yeild a 427. The water passages and lifter valley castings were modified for the Mark VI block to be compatable with all Big Block heads. The mark V blocks are the special ones. So as long as your block is newer than 98 (I believe that's when Mark VI went into production) your good to go!

Only if you use the proper exchange head gaskets .
