Default Help: 02 Zo6 or 99 911

I've been looking for a vette for some time now, and found one I like. It's an 02 Zo6 with intake and exhaust. But as I was looking into buying it, I stumbled across a 99 Porsche 911 with aero kit, which caught my eye. It just has exhaust and aftermarket air filter. But now I'm pretty torn.. I've always been a vette guy, but there's something about the 911 with that aero kit.. I was hoping someone more educated than myself could give me some advise or any experience they've had. I appreciate it.

I had been looking at the same cars as you before I bought my Z06.
The 99' Porsche with the Aero Kit may be appealing, but trust me on this one: you don't want that one.

If you really gotta have a 911 then get a 02' or younger version. Those versions of 911 underwent revisions, receiving the front headlight/indicator lights which were first seen on the Turbo version two years earlier. This allowed the 911 to be more distinguishable from the Boxster.

The 04' and up versions are even more powerful,...about 345hp and up, but then we have the cost-factor.

My advice is: Get the 02' Z06 and don't look back.

I agree with the above. And I like the porsche too. I currently own a 2006 911 S, with the aero kit.

However, the 99 is the first year of water cooled. The 3.4 does not get the job done. It is throttle cable controlled and is not supported much in the aftermarket.

The vette is the best bang for the buck. The 911 will come later in life, with the vette next to it in the garage.

Porsche used to be my dream car when I was a lot younger but when I started driving Corvettes I forgot all about them..........

And this is coming from someone who drives and loves a 996 coupe.

The pre-02 versions are slower and do not look as nice as the later ones (although the aero kit mitigates that somewhat), so you would be getting a particularly unappealing version of the 911. Meanwhile, the '02 Z06 is a much more powerful car, albeit with horrible seats and lesser handling feel.

Most Porsche fans consider the pre-02 996s cars to avoid. Not that they can't be fun rides, but you can probably get better bang for your buck out of a Z06 or slightly more expensive 911.

The vette would likely be less costly to repair as well.

The 911 is a great car but the 99 is not the one to take home. The 996 is kinda the odd man out of the family. Lacks the feel and old world charm of the air cooled 930/964/993 and the performance of the newer 997. If you must buy a 996 because of price, stick with the 2003 and newer. Not as many engine failures because of going back to a double bearing set up if memory serves.

All of this is just IMO stuff but prices of 996s are lower than 993/964 and about on par with the 930s in good condition so I must not be alone in my thinking.

All good advice here, bang for the buck you cannot beat the C5 Z06, unless you want to drop the coin for a newer "P" car its your best bet.

Can't go wrong with a C5 Z, have owned 2 of them, an 02 and 03 and they SIMPLY ROCK, and are an INCREDIBLE BANG for the buck and RELIABLE to!
