I was checking out the AI website. They offer a 280cc full cnc porting package or a performance rebuild package. After reading the description, I am unsure about what heads they need supplies to them. Are both packages designed for me to send in my stock oem heads? It kind of seems like the 280cc package wants you to send in aftermarket heads? Is that right? There is about $1000 increase in the cnc labor price on the 280cc package. Do they just do more extensive porting on that package while still using my factory heads?
I have a very low mileage (3,400 miles) 2006 z06 and am just researching heads. It seems like you can spend a ton of money on higher end heads with all the upgraded parts. I would Ultimately Iike to be at 600whp, but why not 650 or more with a better na build?
What did they do to you? Sorry but I have no complaints about them. If you feel otherwise then tell us why or keep your opinion to yourself cause you’re clearly biased.

Both options are for OEM castings. One option is a ‘refresh’ (guides, valve seats, etc), the other ports and re shapes the runners and combustion chamber.
Yes, you send the stock heads into them with a note on what you want done. They use the stock head - as an already ported once its a no go as who knows what the CNC will overlap/over done from previous stuff etc. Furthermore, do not pack your heads with those white packing peanuts. On the aftermarket heads Phil has a nice Brodix package but he uses his porter casting. It is basically a smaller hole casting so the porter can do what he wants with the head. It is a similar 280 cc program with the 2.20 valve. I have a set of AI Brodix heads. Great heads - 455 Cubic Inch motor made 757 motor hp (6,700 rpm) and 663 tq (5,100 rpm) with a 246/258 HR cam and 1 7/8 header 12 to 1 and Mamo MSD. With 2 inch headers could have probably cleared 770 hp.
hmm. so many heads, so many opinions. that is what is hard to wade through. i kinda feel like i could put a bunch of companies names in a hat and pull one out and be just fine. i definitely want a nicely ported head. i've heard good things about mamo, trick flow, ai, american heritage, and i forget the name of others. sounds like a bunch of subtleties between different companies porting and maybe geometry if an aftermarket casting. part of me thinks an aftermarket casting may be better as you can maybe avoid some of the flaws gm has with the heads. but, i hear really good things about companies that port the stock heads.

I'd REALLY suggest giving tony mamo a call before you make your final decision. He can give you a lot of information, and is really helpful. I decided to go with his heads package after talking to him.

I have AI heads milled 0.30 full CNC ported! They are one of the best in the business! Im at 640whp with b3 cam from Race Proven Motorsports! Running 30k miles on HCI strong!
They are always a bit behind on work, because they make top cylinder heads, well worth the wait! Couple of my friends have wcch and ahp, and my AI heads push more whp than they do!
There are 2 schools of thought with the LS7 heads, having your OEM heads redone with new guides, seats, etc or go with aftermarket replacements...Mamo, Frankenstein, AHP, etc. I think that it all comes down to how much money you are willing to spend

sweet! I hear a lot about the b3 cams. Why did you pick them?

seems like selling your stock heads offsets the cost of aftermarket
A thousand grinds better than b3. What's Zo6 used for wkend drag toy dd etc ? B3 inflated dyno ( RPM). Have seen real accurate #s. SAME PACKAGE! No where close to RPM #s. FACT FACT FACT.
Very simple answer, I’m lazy. I sent the car to race proven in Delaware and did the their package. I looked at a bunch of different options and the BTR 3 caught my eye. In the end I wanted a proven, well put together package and that’s what I got. I was surprised at how driveable the car was. I expected the worst but the tune tames most of the big cam issues and it’s got plenty of power.

Actually no. It was the price. YouTube was the reason why I didn’t initially want go to them. Then I meet a couple of people that used them and raved about their work. Like them or not they know what they are doing.
