I recently picked up my Z06/Z07 car and while I love the car, the noise, the smells, and the drive... I have to ask, what else were we all considering at this price point?

I'll start: Gen 4 Viper ACR Hardcore. No crazy screens, no electronic nannies to speak of. Just a raw car with a punch. Still on the back of my mind as I break in the new ride.

Honorable mention (though quite a bit higher) is the 458. What a car, best car I've driven to date.

I would love to hear your thoughts!

Nothing compares to my well optioned C8Z Vert for the price. My plan B would have been a C8, Less optioned C8ZR1, C6Z, C3, or just invest in something that does not drive down the road. I live in a rural area, so maintenance on a Porche is too much of a hassle and Ferrari is cost prohibitive. If price, resale, and maintenance was no option, I still prefer the C8Z over anything Porche has ever made. IMHO, the only thing batter than the most powerful 8cyl NA FPC are very few (5 or LESS) more powerful 12cyl NA FPC cars. I believe that I can afford a C8ZR1, am on a list I trust too, but am 98% sure that I am going to stick with the C8Z. It is a forever car. Sure you can get a car with more power that you can’t use, but the experience of a NA FBC is worth more to me.

Currently own the C8Z vert and a Mustang vert. Only two “performance” cars I have owned. Next might be a C6Z or C3.

I did seriously consider a used GT3RS (2019) after racing a friend's car at the track, but in the end it would have been another $100k all in, and the Z06/Z07 was always my plan when I gave the deposit for my '21 C8 in December of 2019. No other cars for me.

almost pulled the trigger on a porsche gts, down to the last week and i found my z06/z07 in georgia and flew down from pgh to drive it home. I wanted the flat plane and i am enjoying it.

This is my forever car

I wanted it fairly easy to service as I live in TN and there is not much in the way of exotic or even premium type dealers / service around here.

I wanted a performance level that I would be happy with that did not need to be improved on.

I wanted a unique look, while I love Porsche, I cannot see spending $200K+ to have a car that looks much like the one I had back in the early 2000's

I was all over the map. Mostly looking at used cars 1-3 years old. No particular order. Merc GT (still find those cars to be quite beautiful), R35 GTR, 911 Turbo, C6 ZR1. Any of those would have gotten some mild to more significant mods to make it a bit more fun. I have no regrets with the C8Z purchase at this stage but at this stage in my life, I still want to experience all of the things.

Nothing for me either. I have not gotten my car yet (TPW of 07/22, already sold my '21 z51), but there is nothing out there that met the parameters for me within $100k of the C8Z: FPC-the star of the show, can't wait to redline that motor (after the 1500 mile track break-in of course), and loud, but quality loud. I hear cars all the time that make you want to cover your ears....give me that high volume song of the FPC and the angry growl of the reverse-trumpeted exhaust tips. I ordered an HTC, not because I am a convertible guy, but so I can hear that wonderful sound when the top is up, or down. And drivability. I want a comfortable car with all the amenities when I am taking a road trip to the great roads in southeastern Ohio......

I agree with others: the ultimate "cross-shop" machine would be the 458 Speciale, the most beautiful car in the world, IMO. But, $500k and up + service and repair costs? and does not meet the OP's criteria of a comparison car in the same price range.

I was between GT3 or C7z either in manual but the C8z what the benchmark I kept comparing them to and since I plan to drive daily couldn't not justify a 220k car sitting outside

Eventually will grab a c4 or c5z to settle that manual itch

If I didn't do the HTC Z06, I would have done an HTC Eray. I still occasionally debate about this, the Eray would be a better street car (which is mostly what the car gets used as) and a better trip car for me and the wife. The problem is I just love the sound and rev range of the Z06, although the ride is a little stiff for street use.
Other cars I considered but ultimately eliminated were:
Ferrari: Either a 360 or F430 convertible w/gated manual. Reasons I didn't were soft top convertible that can be "finicky", no warranty, high maintenance costs and no modern amenities (CP/AA, vented seats, cupholders, etc).
Lambo: Gallardo gated manual. Similar reasons as Ferrari for passing.
McLaren: 570 or 650 spyder. Seriously considered these, but the biggest concern was parts availability. You can get a warranty on them, and they've got the sound and looks, but I've known too many people with them where they were out of service for months waiting on parts (even under warranty). Plus McLaren has a funky infotainment system that doesn't support CP/AA.

718 Cayman GT4. Was super close to pulling the trigger on one actually. Literally the day I went and looked at one and was getting ready to make an offer my Z06 allocation came up after three years of waiting. Friend of mine said the Corvette gods must have known I was about to go another route.

Same. I was strongly considering this one as well when I was going through my lemon ordeal with the last one. Couldn't talk myself into it though, feel like everything about that car, I liked slightly less than the Z. For the money, I didn't want to pay more for a car that I absolutely wasn't in love with.

Manual conversion Ferrari F430. It's a great car. Happy with my choice to go with the Z06 as it's a better car in every way. The 430 is at the bottom of the depreciation curve and would have been more special, but I don't think it's any more fun and would have had at least some issues given that it's nearly 20 years old at this point.

I thought about a Porsche GT car, but they just don't excite me quite enough for this kind of money.

When I was looking at the C8 stingray, the alternative was a 2013 Ferrari California, the last year with the NA engine. HTC, DCT, and high revving engine at a price significantly less than a 458. No warranty, sparse on no modern amenities, and potentially expensive to maintain were strikes against it. For the Z06, the LT6 sealed the deal. Now I have all 3 features with a full warranty and modern amenities. Nothing else in its price range checked all the boxes.

Mclaren is strictly about the driving experience. I've owned 3 of them, and they are next level sitting in the drivers seat, regardless what you "hear" people tell you. Best drivers car I have ever driven, PERIOD! You don't even care what it's missing, or what creature comforts it may, or. may not have. Am I a Fanboy, yes...Yes I am. The new Z06 we just acquired is the closest thing I've seen on the road that even holds a candle to the drivers experience of ANY Mac!
