Default How can you respect the CHP?

How can you respect the CHP when Xmas eve the revenue generators give me a bogus fail to stop at stop sign at bottom of off ramp. Geeze my last ticket 3 years ago was on Father's day because my back wheel hit the yellow line entering the car pool lane! Are you kidding me? Is this pettiness what the CHP has degenerated to? HUMBUG!

Well Bob, I have never been pulled over for a bogus citation in the past. I'm usually doing something wrong like for speeding. I'm just glad that when I have been busted in the past I wasn't doing one of my high speed runs down a remote road somewhere and I'm well into three digits. That would be really really bad!!!

I figure that I have definatley gotten away with a few things in my Vettes over the years. If I get tagged from time to time on a close one, I generally chalk it up to Kharma. Others may feel different, and that's cool. When I was a Cop Christmas Eve and Christmas Days were PR days. I would stop them, explain why, the let them know there were getting a freegie, and to be careful. Duces were different did not want to spoil my holiday cleaning up a mess!!!

Curious question. Is the stop sign considered part of the freeway - chp - or city street - local city cop jurisdiction ?

CHP has jurisdiction state wide regardless of city, county or state. limitations are accident investigations, They investigate accidents on freeways, and all accidents regardless of location, involving school buses, Probably are a few other exceptions related to commercial vehicles. but they can cite just about anywhere that is regulated by the Cali Veh Code.

I totally agree - every time I drive this car I'm not within what is accepted as legal - part of the price of the car! I accept what I do and know that I've gotten off more then I've paid - like Kent said I'm just glad that when I have been caught it wasn't on one of our higher speed runs!

Drive fast - BUTT be SAFE! It can be done My New Years resoluation is to slow down -yea right that'll happen!

Carl

Did you tell him you have a racing license and that he must be mistaken

This wouldn't happen if you were driving a Vette on the street.

BUT

I can say since I dont speed anymore do complete stops etc.
No tickets since 93. So if that carries any weight....

Course my DD is practically invisible it seems.

Fight it or pay the man. Happy Holidays

what ive never understood is how alcohol checkpoints are legal at all. How can they pull you over without cause? seems like guilty until proven innocent to me.

The catch is that they use the opportunity of the "stop" to observe you, and use that observation as well as your answers to simple questions for their probable cause for full detainment.

Obviously these days the traffic enforcement division is under pressure to write tickets for traffic violations. The attitude of the officer most likely plays into his decision to enforce every violation as slight as it may be. I have been stopped for something minor and was only advised to watch my driving a little closer and then allowed to go without a citation. The officer acted in a professional manner, was respectful and reasonable in his actions. On another occasion for another traffic stop I found the encounter to be just the opposite. Yes there are unreasonable officers out there that can't see beyond there big egos when in uniform and carrying the badge. Those few officers give a bad rap for the majority that are reasonable in their duties to keep the hwy's safe.

Frank you are older than I am. Perhaps your luck is better. After 51 years I have never had a positive encounter with the CHP. In 51 years I have never seen positive actions to keep the highways safe. I'll vote to cut their funding at every opertunity.
