Corvette Sedan

Long before Aston Martin figured out a way to apply the sexy proportions of the DB9 to a 4-passenger Rapide, there was a C3 Corvette Sedan! Based out of Pasadena, CA, California Custom Coachworks took 6 regular old Corvettes and added a row of seats to them. The red example you see in the photos above is one of the two known to have survived.

Adding a Second Row

Seeing this eye-catching creation out in public will have you do a double-take. The C3 is a pretty lengthy vehicle already. So adding a set of rear seats will sure turn it into a specimen. And although it surely changes driving dynamics, with the addition of weight and a longer wheelbase, the idea of being able to enjoy the Corvette's performance with the whole family can be enticing.

Pricey Build

The added length measures 30 inches and the extra mass is about 500 lbs. The cost of the conversion at the time was a whopping $35,000. Taking inflation into consideration, that would equal over $110,000 today. But what's more interesting is the fact that the sale price of a new Corvette in 1980 was around $14,000 (approximately $45,000 today).

Auctioned

Sold at auction for $214,884 a couple of years back, this particular Corvette Sedan actually made an appearance on the cover of Road & Track magazine. And at the time of the auction, it showed just 20K miles on the odometer. Rolling up with the family in tow in this bad boy would have been a big flex in the '80s, and even more so today!

Throwback

With the American automotive industry seemingly abandoning the sedan segments, it's unlikely GM will use this throwback as inspiration for a future high-performance sedan model. The 4-door coupe segment is slowly giving way to the already popular SUV coupe category. Rare appearances of custom creations like this Corvette Sedan are nothing if not a refreshing nod to simpler times.
