Red Hot

General Motors has reinvented the Corvette.  Chevy’s new C8 Corvette Stingray is shocking muscle car enthusiasts in all sorts of ways: from its radical new design to its considerably reasonable price tag.  The C8 Stingray is slated to run from 0 – 60 mph in just under three seconds.  The Corvette’s 6.2-liter V8 engine holds an impressive 495 horsepower.  Buyers can also opt for the Z51 Performance Package which options the Stingray with improved brakes, cooling and a performance exhaust.

Not your Old Man's car

The 2020 C8 Stingray is shaking things up for loyal Corvette enthusiasts.  Statistically, the average age for new Corvette buyers is 59. There are different reasons for median Corvette owners ages reaching close to retirement.  One of those factors may be pricing.  Corvettes have always been pricier sports cars.  A 2019 Corvette Stingray usually starts in the mid to high 50k mark while a Chevy Camaro can start around 25k.  Arguably, Camaros can be optioned up to match the Corvette’s power and price tag.  Another factor is nostalgia.  The Corvette’s design has always been a classic take on a sleek, sexy sports car with fans falling in love with the car’s big hood and flowing curves. Chevy’s new design is a clear signal that the company wants to sell its flagship speedster to a younger generation.

American Supercar

American Supercar.  The new Stingray shrugs off the classic lines of the 1970s and embraces the styling of European legends. The 2020 C8 Corvette Stingray has been redesigned and it looks more like a Lamborghini than a Chevrolet. The C8 will have a mid-engine powerplant, another nod to its supercar inspirations.  Will it be as fast as a Ferrari or a Lamborghini?  That remains to be seen.  Although General Motors has released the base 'Vette's horsepower rating (495) and acceleration stats (0-60 under three seconds), the company is claiming that the 2020 C8 Corvette Stingray’s top speed remains to be evaluated.

Super Affordable

Supercar for a super price. General Motors is claiming that the car will retail in the 60k price range.  This is a huge selling point for buyers that want the styling of an Italian supercar but can’t afford it, or simply refuse to spend a quarter of a million dollars on a car.  Ford’s supercar, the Ford GT has a price tag climbing toward half a million dollars while Dodge’s top of the line Challenger Hellcat Redeye Widebody marks just shy of $80,000.

The Road Ahead

Embracing the future. Corvettes have always been a thing of beauty.  Whether you’re a Corvette enthusiast or a lover of cars in general, one can appreciate the Corvette’s sexy lines and speed.  Even drivers loyal to Ford and Mopar can appreciate the brand’s legendary power and performance.  Corvette is taking a risk by changing the Stingray’s look. But producing an American made supercar with 495 horsepower for $60,000 may prove to be a risk worth taking.
