Custom Mako Shark Corvette Looks Like a Real-Life Hot Wheels Car

As one might imagine from a TV car, this C3 is a bit over the top.

Next Level

The Mako Shark series is one of the more iconic series of Corvette prototypes in history, and one that wound up inspiring actual production vehicles, which isn't always the case. Thus, Mako Shark Corvettes are quite coveted in the world of collector vehicles, though this one-off recently churned out by Gotham Garage of Netflix's Car Masters Rust to Riches fame takes that model's already bodacious styling to an entirely new level.

Finding Inspiration

As one of season four's signature builds, this C3 started life as a regular old, run-of-the-mill later model that needed quite a bit of work. The owner had one simple request - he wanted a true one-off build that had a bit of heritage behind it, yet was also thoroughly modern. Thus, the Mako Shark 2 served as inspiration for this Corvette's transformation.

One of a Kind

Obviously, with a six-figure budget, pretty much anything was possible, and the end result of this particular project is truly one of a kind. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, well, we'll leave that up to you to decide. Regardless, this Mako Shark-inspired C3 is certainly unlike anything else out there in the world, and there's something to be said for that.

Total Makeover

The crew at Gotham Garage got to work by giving the Corvette a custom front end fashioned from carbon fiber, which features gills - just like a real shark. The sides of the bodywork have been stretched considerably to make room for huge wheels and tires, while an old-fashioned side exhaust lends it a bit of retro appeal.

Old School Custom

The sheer amount of bodywork that went into this build is expansive, as Gotham even went so far as to change the roofline and make it look more like a fastback. Capped off by a ducktail rear spoiler, the result looks more like something we'd see emerge from the mind of the late George Barris than anything else.

Glitz and Glamor

This custom Corvette does feature a far more modern interior, at least, as well as - shockingly enough - a stock drivetrain, it seems, as that part wasn't touched by the Gotham crew. For a six-figure build, we'd expect a lot more, but then again, this is TV we're talking about - it's all about the glitz and glamor, and in that regard, this wild machine certainly fits the bill.
